  1. Mad Yakker Looks just the job. Hoping to be in position to get an outfit early next year, something else to add to the shopping list! Graeme.
  2. Pugs How about one of these? http://www.handirackuk.com/tech.asp A guy pulled up next to me at the garage last week with one of these with a Yak on it, looked highly impressive.
  3. It's interesting to note that they didn't have time to put on life jackets, this implies a fairly catastrophic failure of the hull. I'm slighly east of Bognor and I know there are some rocks in this area, perhaps as it would have been near low water they struck these and damaged the hull? I would have thought though a decent admiralty chart and gps would have prevented this? I think this is another case of lack of knowledge/equipment leading to a totally avoidable situation. When will they licence all small boats and introduce a mandatory competency test? I used to mullet fish next to a public launching ramp a few years back and I wouldn't have trusted some of the people there with a toy boat in a bath let alone at sea!! I have to agree with GB these people baffle me!!!
  4. Steve Just been and checked and both the 7ft and 8ft Samuri's I have are both rated 3-15g. I have seen other figures quoted for both rods on the net but the decals on the rods both state 3-15g  I love my bass-pro rod for the salt, for fishing lures like Kastmasters and Banana Boats it's superb. (Do get some strange looks from the 12ft beach rod brigade, especially when I outfish them! )
  5. Steve I think the bass-pro rod is a little bit pokey for chub and perch. I have the samuri in both 7ft and 8ft and would happily use either up the river. They have the same rating and are very similar in action
  6. Steve I managed to get a samuri from summerlands, their website is http://www.summerlands.co.uk I also use the 6ft bass-pro rod from Lureshack They are both nice rods but very different to fish with, I use the samuri in freshwater for both chub and perch (also handles any pike that come along) and it's a lovely rod. The bass-pro rod is much stiffer but I use it in the salt for mackeral, gars and bass, again a really nice rod to fish with. It all depends on the type of rod you prefer, I fish both with 1000 size shimanos and 15lb power-pro and can't fault either of them
  7. Hey Spasor Don't know how often you fish Shoreham, but as I'm only 10 mins away it's a fair bet I'm there more often than you! (Fished there this morning actually ) As spasor said the east arm is cleaner but even that isn't exactly miles from the carpark. Still stand by what I said, a dawn tide with either lure gear or a fly rod stay mobile and work the beach. I usually start near the arm and work my way along west to the widewater at Lancing. As spasor said there are bass along with mackeral, gars and scad (if you're there in the dark). Yep, would agree you can take flounders from the beach not really my thing, but local match result would suggest you're better fishing for them after dark. If you realy want flounders though you would probably be better fishing in the Adur, the cormorants certainly seem to take their share. I would say that if you like to stay in one spot, carry loads of gear or fish in the company of muppets then fish the arm, otherwise stay mobile and explore the miles of beach that you can have all to yourself!!!
  8. John I wouldn't bother with arm, you will probably do just as well from the adjacent beach. The only exception would be if you are fishing for smuts then you need to fish the very end of the arm. Unfortunately, the arm has always been unpleasant with litter and it's also not helped that some anglers use it as a toilet. So my advice would be to get away from the throngs of muppets on the arm and fish the beach, best fishing during the summer is at dawn usually from about 4hrs before H/W up.
  9. If you type "bottom bouncer" (no smart comments required!! ) into a search engine such as google, you might find the answer to your problem. Although designed for trolling you might get away with them from the shore.
  10. Jim It might be worth posting this question over at http://www.ukswff.co.uk a few of the guys over there have flyfished for mullet in the UK. Although some reckon it's a rocky road that leads to insanity Graeme
  11. What can I add!! A fantastic days fishing at a superb fishery Had a few Grayling on the pin, what more could you want. Problem now will be avoiding the temptation of a season ticket Thanks for organising a great day Darrell, definately up for it next year [ 20. February 2005, 06:27 PM: Message edited by: Graeme B ]
  12. This is probably some kind of fungus, I've noticed it on the fish at some of my local fisheries at this time of the year. Not actually caught any fish with these markings as my fishing takes place at crystal clear spring fed fisheries so I simply avoid these fish. Not sure about how the eating quality is affected, probably best to ask the fishery manager.
  13. Yep, still coming and looking forward too it!
  14. I'm sure I could manage a breakfast at the fishery if that's possible to arrange.
  15. There is no night fishing on the pier at Worthing. (some locals do climb on but that invariably leads to being asked to leave by the security patrols ) There is a nightclub at the end of the pier and clubbers are allowed on later but they pay at the entrance. Fishing by the way is free. In the Summer the pier closes at 10 p.m. this time of year I believe it closes at 6 p.m. There are occaisonal good bass taken all year but probably not a bass venue this time of the year. Later in the year the bass will show in larger numbers and can be taken on live smelt/wrasse. There has also been a good run of smuts the last few years once the crabs (especially the spiders ) start peeling. This time of year it will mainly be flounders, jims and maybe channels. If the water is coloured there will probably be dogs as well. If I was travelling down this way I would probably head for the Marina at Brighton instead
  16. Darrell I would like to come along if possible Graeme
  17. Don't blame the fluff chuckers Many coarse anglers (including myself) used the close season to go fluff chucking. In fact I still do, doesn't seem right coarse fishing between March and June. (I love that June 16th feeling  ) Think you will find that pressure from commercial carp waters and the tackle industry killed the close season. Of course living by the sea helps as there are still plenty of angling opportunities.

    Fly tying

Gary For saltwater flyfishing in the UK your best bet would be to take a look at http://www.ukswff.co.uk plenty of advice there. Also a very similar question has been answered on their forum. Graeme
  19. The guy who wrote that article is a regular poster on the forum over at http://www.ukswff.co.uk He certainly knows his stuff - he posts under the name 'My Fish'
  20. Pugs If you put "controller float" into Google you'll find plenty of sites that sell them. I've used them in the past for presenting surface fished crust for mullet and they cast a long way!! I also seem to remember a few years back anglers fishing Redgills using Jif lemons. They would take the empty lemon and fill it with wax to provide the casting weight and then glue a swivel in the lid (I would stick with the controller floats ) I see from your profile you are in Crawley, I would have thought you could have picked some up at Jack Frosts. (If it still exists!!) You could try these instead, very popular with French Anglers. I've a friend who uses them to present sandeels very successfully!! http://www.harrisangling.co.uk/

  23. Ken You're right a pub quiz favourite Nice line! A bit of Bad Taste, a bit removed from LOTR Graeme
  24. "I've seen things you people wouldn't believe. Attack ships on fire off the shoulder of Orion. I watched c-beams ... glitter in the dark near Tannhauser Gate. All those ... moments will be lost ... in time, like tears ... in rain. Time ... to die." Blade Runner works for me everytime!!
  25. I must admit I found the service from Greys to be first class - last year I broke the butt section of my GRX that I use for saltwater flyfishing.I contacted greys and they advised me to return the butt section (cut into 6" lengths!!) to them along with the £15 handling fee, I received the replacement within a week and have had no further problems with the rod. (despite the abuse it receives on the beach ) I would definately get in touch with Greys as soon as possible!!! Of course Greys are now part of House of Hardy (but that's another story ) I would also add that my brother broke his Sage and received nowhere near such good service!! [ 06.
