  1. Remember the days (60's & 70's) when approval seeking, Good Anglers would tie hooks for their mates as though it was some kind of Black Art !! Never bought any myself but I know the guys who did - especially those of which they unraveled on them. "BIG FAT CUTTSY - AGAIN" was sometimes echoed. Ref to one Harold Cutts R.I.P., God bless him. gozzer prob' recalls??
  2. Reckon I'd go for something like a 7 foot Tele' Pike rod to match the 28 Lb line?? Pretty cheap rods online these. Here's a few for under £20 (& some for quite a bit more) https://www.googleadservices.com/pagead/aclk?sa=L&ai=DChcSEwjyhcOk2sLdAhWOv-0KHV6EDigYABAXGgJkZw&ohost=www.google.co.uk&cid=CAASEuRons7PnwFHZQXeTdAcysj2gA&sig=AOD64_0tHzjh2CB6bUlDpm18x4_vy-oeTg&ctype=5&q=&ved=0ahUKEwiyxb6k2sLdAhVsBcAKHdspCCwQ9aACCE8&adurl= I use these cheap rod types on hol's & well made for the money - Like the NGT 9 foot 4 piece.
  3. Well wotnob, contrary to your request for practical experience rather than makers claims, here's a Maver one which may be of Interest. Surely worth an exploratory £6 https://www.googleadservices.com/pagead/aclk?sa=L&ai=DChcSEwiM2vHnrbvdAhWine0KHXkrDMcYABASGgJkZw&ohost=www.google.co.uk&cid=CAASEuRoS-f1PGV1whtKGeDpSwz5tw&sig=AOD64_3hT8ibjPxL06F3lfUrjp3TYcrc9w&ctype=5&q=&ved=0ahUKEwifsO3nrbvdAhXoKsAKHXMNDhoQ9aACCE0&adurl= Personally, I simply ship the handle behind me & place the net head between my thighs to unhook the fish. Would only take a few seconds to unscrew the net alternatively. Unless I'm missing your point??
  4. Sportsman - please re- read the bit about "Little Terrorist Cells Apart" Martin Who are these "awesome bits of kit" supposed to defend you from? Successive Prime Ministers have said that they would only ever be launched as retaliation for an attack that was taking place, so if you look at a list of countries that have nuclear capability, who do you think is likely to launch an attack? There is only one that I can see and that is Russia and as Russian oligarchs now own large parts of London they are unlikely to attack their own property. BTW, I do understand about MAD and the deterrent effect. That means that if the missiles were ever launched, we have already lost. Meanwhile a much more serious threat is the idea of a terrorist group building a suitcase bomb or dirty bomb and attacking any big city. How will your subs cope with that?. It would have been a much better idea to have spent the billions that have been wasted on these white elephants on beefing up intelligence to counteract the genuine terrorist threat. Lastly, the EU already has access to a nuclear defence, in France. MI5 & MI6, + SAS etc can & do deal with these all day long - well most of the time we don't actually see!!! What does a Terrorist Look Like?? well they look very much look like us!! Why is Putin scared - Because he's really no idea where our Subs are, they might as well be on his decking!!
  5. Thanks for pm Paul. 'Ey Up Phone - You're part way to bein' an Honorary Yorkshireman - Mushy Peas an' all !!
  6. The EU will still enjoy the protection afforded by our UK based Nuclear Submarine capability via the Astute, Successor & in 2020, the Dreadnought class Subs. Awesome bits of kit these!! Make no mistake - we're more than ready for ANY kind of conflict, close to our shores or otherwise. (Little Terrorist cells apart currently making headlines outside the bigger picture!!)
  7. Hendrick's Gin (or any really) with crushed ice & smashed up, peeled cucumber - Mmmmmmm.
  8. Would save Me a Job lol. PS - Your bedroom wallpaper is very Nice
  9. There I go again, talking rubbish (again) yes we have Energy Saving bulbs all over rest of house - Except for the bedside "Touch" Lamps which are Halogen, in a normal looking glass globe. Twas our old Bedside lamps which had the Energy Savers.
  10. Perch are a member of the Bass family, so can't see any reason why Black Bass wouldn't also take a worm. A few strands of Red wool also tied to the hook might not go amiss & worm twitched now & again IMO.
  11. We use Energy Saving bulbs (which are not LED) in our bedside lamps with no problems to Radio alarm clocks of which we both have next to them.
  12. Hey up bud, I'm Leeds (well Lofthouse these days) Have you tried Tackle2U in Outwood, just up the road from me??. Great bunch of friendly, knowledgeable fella's working there - they know me very well. They're competitive & knock a bit off for regulars if spending a few £. They have an even bigger superstore in Bradford, but can & do send stuff to the Outwood branch for me. It's dead opposite Tesco Express on Leeds/Wakefield Road. (keep on past end of Jaw Bones) If on the Bus - get the 110 stand 7 Leeds bus station or anywhere Hunslet Rd, Stourton & onward. Not unkown to get the kettle on!!
  13. Maybe get them used to taking dog biscuits off the top with confidence for a few days & not fish during that time, thus avoiding the snags below!! A trick I saw on telly (Matt Hayes) was then to use a similar coloured, more buoyant, floating boillie cut to represent a dog biscuit to compensate for the weight of the hook (They seemed to be able avoid the proper biscuit which had the hook in it) Use super glue to attach hook to Boillie or Biscuit. Banded "Go Cat" biscuits also work well, especially the fishy shaped ones - band holds very well. A marker float for casting weight about 6 foot away from bait should be about right. Even if you only get 1 or 2 this way would be highly satisfying IMO!!
  14. Judging by the photo' - Not much else going for him!!
  15. Apparently there is some great course/river fishing to be had in Croatia. My wife & I are going there in October (Porec), but I'll be just wetting a line in the sea for a few hours a time. Flight is only just over 2 hours & there's loads of tackle shops there. And plenty of places to get a License (which you'll need) https://www.croatiatraveller.com/SpecialInterests/Fresh-Water.html Safe to assume then that Roach & other silvers etc + Grayling will also be present to support the head of Pred's.
  16. I do like a nice wikky, but in my Gin period just now - Hic'.
  17. With the best of intentions Ken, some children have been let down by "THE SYSTEM" - sometimes with the worst possible outcome for the child. Police may be the best course of action IMO.
  18. Clearly on fisheries like Redmire, the fish don't have to compete that much for food, which is why corn is still a killer bait on most commercials.
  19. Maybe leave the thread on for a couple of days to give wellyphant a little time to read it all & for the site to show some duty of care in doing so.
  20. I agree with all the above, though it can sometimes help to share issues with friends on places like this. The Police in your region WILL have a dedicated Child Protection Team, made up of sensitive officers trained solely for the purpose. Act quickly & speak to them would be my advice. They'll know exactly what to do & who needs to be to involved right away!!. Could you take some holiday/unpaid leave or make the time up while she is away?? Maybe it's not that simple or unclear when she is returning?? She could be prevented from travelling if there was any doubt!!
  21. Have to say cory, never heard of Timothy as grass, save for being a male Christian name. How many more males are named after plants?? Thought it was just a female thing, Daisy, Muriel (my Mam) etc.
  22. Yes got it Paul, hope you saw my reply in time for 2:25 York?? won 10/1 (I got 14's)
  23. V.D. was the laddish topic of titillating conversation in the play ground when I went to school - along with Rubber Johnnies!! What with the Umbrella treatment!! (urethral scrape) "They push it up down & pull it down up". A titter was always raised when our English Literature Master was reading to us & a character in the book said (for instance) "No No" he ejaculated.
  24. Umbogo, Umbongo, they drink it it in the Congo, the Lioness, the Marmosets etc. Then there's Jungalies!! Jolly Jelly Jungalies you build them up in piles - with Hippos, Snakes & Toitoites and Elephants and Crocodiles, Rowntree's Jungalies are new and lots of Fun!! Yes I know It's Tortoises but Toitoises fits better lol.
  25. Well mate I have to admire your resolve in sticking to your guns!!
