  1. We don't get enough paid holiday a year either. My brother-in-law who works for a large French pharmaceuticals firm in France gets 10 weeks paid hols a year.

  3. It just might be Equisetum fluviatile, or water horsetail although I hope for your sake, or for your ponds sake, it is not. Horsetails are one of the oldest plant species on earth. They are living fossils, during the Jurassic period they grew as big as trees. They are just about indestructible.
  4. Carp like? Perish the thought. Mullet don't have beer bellies.
  5. I've been away for a week or two. Have I missed summat?
  6. How then will your kids learn to evaluate risks for themselves if you never allow them to take any?
  7. They can be caught all round our coast in summer. [ 02. June 2004, 03:55 PM: Message edited by: corydoras ]
  8. I am not a Southerner, rather a Northener living down south. We like fishing for mullet because they are tricky to catch but when you do get one on there is nothing that fights quite like a mullet. IMHO the thick-lipped mullet is pound-for-pound the hardest fighting fish round our coast. Give them a go on light tackle and you won't regret it. (If you can hook one )
  9. So is this bit just not true then? "It is now well established in north America, where there are more than 4,000 cases a year and up to 300 deaths. In one outbreak across the Mid-west last year, 67 people died".
  10. What sort of Landie have you got Ferret? I used to have a Defender. PS It looks as if you could just about gralloch a stag with that [ 27. May 2004, 10:38 PM: Message edited by: corydoras ]
  11. Laugh I nearly p1ssed myself. Rather cut off my left nut than vote for the UKIP
  12. O wad some Pow'r the giftie gie us To see oursels as others see us
  13. It is more an English attitude than a UK wide attitude, Newt. I am a Scot and when I started to fish 30 something years ago I would not have dreamt about going out fishing for something I could not chop up and stick in the pan. Nowadays I only target thick-lipped mullet and I release them all. In fact I release all fish these days. Things have changed in Scotland too. Course fishing is much more popular now and catch and release is common. [ 07. May 2004, 07:07 PM: Message edited by: corydoras ]
  14. Not quite. Resolution of most monitors is fixed at around 72 dpi.
  15. I'm with you Yoxter, but with less of the semi [ 29. April 2004, 03:59 PM: Message edited by: corydoras ]
  16. I have spoke to my friend (another German national) who I got my info from. I guess we will just have to agree to disagree Paul. [ 29. April 2004, 04:00 PM: Message edited by: corydoras ]
  17. I can only speak for France since I know their system fairly well. In France you get an ID card at birth, with a baby photo on it. [ 28. April 2004, 04:16 PM: Message edited by: corydoras ]
  18. I was chatting to a German buddy of mine (who lived over here for a year or five) on MSN at lunchtime so I am pretty sure I am correct.
  19. Well I cannot say that it would have 'no effect whatsoever', but I think that any effect on the crime rate would be negligable. Your last comment is the bit of this new ID card scheme that I have the real problem with. If it is going to be a criminal offence to walk out my front door without my ID card, then my secondary residence in France will become my primary residence 'tout-de-suite'. Whilst France does have an ID card scheme which is compulsory (I.E. you have to have one) it is not a crime to pop out to the bakers or the pub without it. It is NOT a crime not to carry your ID card in Germany either, but if you are stopped you are given a 'producer' and you have to bring your ID card to a police station within 5 days, I think. I am not impressed by the 'if you've not done anything wrong, you have nothing to fear' school of thought either. That was the mantra of the SS, the NKVD, the KGB, the STASI and their ilk. They may as well just chip us all like dogs or tag us like cattle.
  20. I am not sure how you come to that conclusion either. France has ID cards and crime and fraud are just as much a problem there as they are here. The 9/11 bombers did not even use any fake ID's, they used ther own 'real'IDs.
