  1. My guess is that your striking as you would do if using mono. Dont strike just tighten up, a bit of practice may be needed.
  2. All i could find was this http://apps.kew.org/trees/?page_id=100
  3. Braid will not damage any of the modern type of rings. How ever the noise that is made when casting with braid will give you this impression.
  4. If raw petrol gets into the CC it will cause damage. Hence the problems with a faulty HT lead. Some diesels have a CC fitted so its quite feasible that one of your previous cars had them fitted. As far as I'm aware there is no maintenance that can be done. I cant see that removing a CC and fitting a standard replacement would get the car through a MOT. It might even be illegal to do so.
  5. The con dems are proposing to sell off all of the forestry to private concerns. This could have an impact on our access to these, maybe affecting some fishing to. There has been mention of this in the press and on TV. There is also an online petion. locations.http://www.38degrees.org.uk/save-our-forests
  6. As Andy said any amount of spinning even with the use of 2 swivels will lead to line twist. The basic swivel is a poor imitation in stopping line twist. Far better to invest in ball bearing swivels and use an anti kink vane or lead. Even then some line twist will occur.
  7. Check round the local pond supply shops some may take the surplus off your hands. I have taken young fish several times to a local shop. He wont pay hard cash but has given me pond flakes in exchange.
  8. I hate to admit this but I bought a pair. How can I put this politely? Total carp. The upside we did a car boot not long after, within 15mins of setting up they were sold for what I paid for them. Later when walking round I saw the two reels for sale on another table for £5.00 more than I sold them. Later still they had been sold.
  9. There is a big difference. If you look at a steel wheel the hub plate attaches centrally to the rim. So any load is spread equally over the rim. Aaly wheels have the central part attached to the outside of the rim. in effect this gives a "L" shared profile. Therefore the load isnt spread equally.
  10. I use a lot of mashed bread. So much so I now hang 2 old keepnets in a shed. Into these I place all the stale bread we generate. I allow the bread to dry out completely. When dry I break each slice in to smaller pieces and store in a plastic tub. When needed I fill a bucket with the bread and soak in water for a few hours. This is then turned out on to a large groundbait sieve. Gentle pressure squeezes out the water. I then mash with either my hands or a spud masher.
  11. http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-england-12098028 Please discuss.
  12. Have a look in the sea angling section of tackle shops. Theres often a good range of soft baits at lower prices.
  13. Please correct me if I'm wrong, but I'm sure I read some where that super glue is detrimental to braid?
  14. My sentiments exactly budgie. Its nothing more than a sponsored money making scheme.
  15. Basicly yes its termed a bait runner. This allows the reel to be in free spool and either the handle is turned or the bait runner knob is switched off. http://www.wmac.co.uk/index.php?main_page=...age&pID=968
  16. Its years aago now but I can remember an accountant named Swindles.
  17. Dave Kelbrick did an article on fishing the shroppy a few years ago in Coarse Fisherman. If memory serves it was a case of fishing for jacks., just fun fishing. I've fished the shroppy in a few areas and spoken to quite a few anglers in an attempt to find some pike. The only thing I was ever able to glean was theres pike in the Vicars Cross area.
  18. The lead your using is heavier than the lure. This means that on the cast the lead is in front with the lure trailing behind, just where your line is. Try feathering the cast so the lure is made to travel first maintain a slight pressure on the line as the lure sinks to. Or use swan shot clipped to the trace just above the lure.
  19. Dont wear cotton as it absorbs moisture then gets cold. That includes jeans. Wool is good. Even better are man made fibres they wick away any sweat so keep you warm. My outfit is thermal vest and long johns. Hiking trousers, which have a fleece lining. Fleece shirt topped with a fleece jacket. Then saloupettes and jacket. I find that I rarely need the jacket but replace it with an insulated waistcoat. Skeetex socks and thermal boots. I dont bother with gloves preferring 2 hand warmers.
  20. Thanks Wata I tried ebay but got no results. I may of of course not typed the correct description. I have spoken to 2 shops i know used to stock it but no longer do. I wonder if Talbot have gone bust?
  21. I've been emailed by one of our American cousins who is trying to locate a supplier of The Talbot Celebrated rod whipping thread. I have done numerous searches and drawn a blank. Any suggestions?
  22. One place I fish has a bull in the field, but it's always with cows (not that that's an absolute guarantee of safety) and is very, very placid. It's always best to have an "escape strategy" though, even if this means taking to the water. If thats the place I'm thinking of, I've been informed by the farmer that the bulls no problem what so ever. How ever one of the cows does have a tendency to be shall we say a bit of a handful. Many years ago I was charged by a ewe no it wasnt a ram. I discovered that she had a lamb that wasnt noticeable till she moved.
  23. Several years ago I offered to introduce some one to piking. On our first get together I was playing a nice double as he arrived. I then went 14 trips before catching another pike. The other lad had at least one on every trip we had.
  24. It was mentioned that the lead separated from the bait by yards. Tie the leger to the trace swivel using PVA string.
  25. Go to your local water and spend a few weekends watching the matches. Then concentrate on the one who seems to be the fishery expert.
