  1. Been getting something similar with Tiscali for weeks, now. Checks for mail, starts receiving mail, gives an error after a random number of messages are collected. Error is usually " server timed out due to inactivity" or similar. Then have to go to Tiscali homepage to collect/delete the rest of my spam. dont know the answer to the problem, sorry. Bloody irritating though !
  2. Got something similar myself, yesterday. It was from management@lineone.net , one of my E-mail providers, and goes something like, Your account will be terminated in 3 days time unless you re-register your details. Click on the link to update your details. Similar file, ending with a .PIF extension, and ..... same old Beagle virus.
  3. Im only guessing, but perhaps its all something to do with winter boredom, and seasonal depression or something. When I was but a wee lurker in this board, everyone seemed to be happy, witty, intelligent, etc etc. Just lately, the regular "fun" posters seem to be taking an awful lot of flak on subjects that would normally raise a smile , or a frown, and people would get on with their lives. Now, however its turning into a major peace threatening debate ! Cripes, even the poor old Word Association thread was under threat the other day ! How sad is that ? ! ? ! ?
  4. Can I vote for either 'allo 'allo , or Duty Free ? Tried and tried to find something in either of them, as my folks used to laugh hysterically at them, but nope, never, nothing funny ever happened for me. Is it by any chance your spawning day, Kendo ? All the best mate.
  5. Recently a "Husband Super Store" opened where women could go to choose a husband from among many men. It was laid out in five floors, with the men increasing in positive attributes as you ascended. The only rule was, once you opened the door to any floor, you HAD to choose a man from that floor; if you went up a floor, you couldn't go back down except to leave the place, never to return. A couple of girlfriends went to the shopping centre to find some husbands... First floor The door had a sign saying, "These men have jobs and love kids." The women read the sign and said, "Well, that's better than not having a job or not loving kids, but I wonder what's further up?" So up they went. Second floor The sign read, "These men have high paying jobs, love kids, and are extremely good looking." "Hmmm," said the ladies, "But, I wonder what's further up?" Third floor This sign read, "These men have high paying jobs, are extremely good looking, love kids and help with the housework." "Wow," said the women, "Very tempting." But there was another floor, so further up they went. Fourth floor This door had a sign saying "These men have high paying jobs, love kids, are extremely good looking, help with the housework and have a strong romantic streak." "Oh, mercy me," they cried, "Just think what must be waiting us further on! So up to the fifth floor they went. Fifth floor The sign on that door said, "This floor is empty and exists only to prove that women are impossible to please. The exit is to your left, we hope you fall down the stairs."
  6. Have a look under Tools from the Internet explorer top menu. Go to Internet Options , click on the Advanced tab at the top , and under the section marked Browsing , scroll down till you see a section for Underline links. The options are always , hover and never. Reset this to your personal choice, and enjoy life to the fullest ! Hope this helps.
  7. Laughed a lot ! Thanks for that Newt. Must keep that one !
  8. Kendo said it best ! but...... As Chesters sig reads " I blame all governments" is probably the answer to Dave G s question !
  9. Its very unlikely the "day of doom " will happen anytime soon, Tinca, cos all the MP3 rippers will just stick to using the older tried and tested formats, basically what they are using now. In order to force people to use the new format, they will have to make it appeal to us. i.e. better sound quality, or tighter file compression ratios. In this wonderful time of Broadband, file compression isnt needed as badly as it was with cr***y dial up ! Get them files while you can !
  10. Yeah. Kazaa these days puts all sort of adware etc on your puter, and takes no prisoners while doing so ! I use a proggy called shareaza, which I find pretty good. Same sort of thing as Kazaa, but connects to multiple "networks" , so you can search a wider set of peoples machines for files. Havent found any spyware or adware with this one. www.shareaza.com Should get you there.
  11. What needs to be understood by a lot of people, and is ususlly hidden in the small print, is that Broadband quality is dependant on several factors. First, how far are you from the exchange ? not "as the crow flies", but by actual cable length. Broadband is generally of a good quality up to about 5 miles from the exchange (cable run). More than that and the electrical signal starts to get distorted, and lose signal strength. Second, What is the contention ratio, and what use is going on in that contention. This is basically how many people are sharing the bandwidth of the Broadband stream. It is usually around 50:1 ie 50 people are sharing the bandwidth. Now, if those 50 people are on at the same time, the speed can deteriorate. That is why you will always get good and bad reports about any Broadband service. However, some services just start out bad, and get worse as more subscribers join up ! No names mentioned !!!
  12. Anthony, when you first switch on the pc, do you get any text at all? Does it beep a couple of times, and then switch the monitor to standby? If so, it sounds like the graphics card is nadged! Try reseating it in its motherboard slot, and if that doesnt work it looks like it wants replacing. you can get a cheapy one for about 30 quid.
  13. No. If you choose to register via the internet, you would in this case be asked to call microsoft (number suppliedby XP), and verify your hardware upgrade. You are allowed to do this several times. As newt said, if you read the licence agreement (none of us really do!), you agree to install and use the software on one machine only. Unless you buy XP as a multi licence package ie for office/business use.
  14. Sorry to hear your having troubles. Used Tiscali dial-up for several years, wouldnt dream of using them again ! When I went for Broadband, I asked a lot of people their opinions, and used a site called www.adslguide.org.uk going into the message boards there, and looking up Tiscali made up my mind NOT to use them. Sorry this doesnt help you, but your not on your own with it !
  15. Youre still gloating about Silverstone, arent you ??? GRRR!
  16. If its not bothering the site host, wats the problem ? Anything you dont like the look of, dont go there! That goes for all on here ! It is supposedly a free country ????!
  17. Yeah, Yeah ...... As a youth, I was a biker myself, and used to go to Oulton Park a lot, living only a few miles away. But.... That is just straight racing. Formula 1 has that strategy element that not many other forms of motor racing has. Are they going fast in the first stint because they are light on fuel ? Are they stopping once twice or three times ? The maths involved is amazing! I love that part of it, especially as me and a mate (KENDO) race each other on PCs when we get the chance. Trying to out think the others pit stop strategies is brilliant, and often hillarious ! Dont get me wrong , I like most forms of motor racing as well. Loved the old style Touring Car racing, but F1 does it for me !
  18. Absolutely no complaints from Plusnet www.Free-online.net.
  19. You could try asking here, Chris. I have a vectra , and they have been helpful to me on the message boards at odd times. www.vectra-sport.com
  20. The future's looking brighter, though. Theres 2 new circuits this season, with more to come next year and beyond. The new engine restrictions, i.e. must last a whole weekend, and the removal of some of the gadgets , are all promising signs. Plenty of new blood coming into the sport, as well.
