  1. Maybe he'll know the answer to the, "are people on Mars really small and green" question.
  2. Welcome to Anglers' Net Rhomer. Fresh water, salt water, or both?
  3. When memory & storage were both limited and very expensive, tight code without lots of bells & whistles was essential. These days, that isn't the case When coding was complicated to learn, only smart & dedicated folks learned it. These days, with software that will write your code for you (often bloated and not efficient but it will work) and with both memory & storage dirt cheap, the possibilities are whatever someone wants to do and since so many "someones" seem to lack taste and common sense, we see lots of tripe.
  4. Gents - please back off the direct attacks on each other.
  5. For those of my generation who do not, and cannot, comprehend why Facebook exists. I am trying to make friends outside of Facebook while applying the same principles. Therefore, every day I walk down the street and tell passersby what I have eaten, how I'm feeling at the moment, what I have done the night before, what I will do later and with whom. I give them pictures of my family, my dog, and of me gardening, taking things apart in the garage, watering the lawn, standing in front of landmarks, driving around town, having lunch, and doing what everybody does every day. I also listen to their conversations, give them the "thumbs up" and tell them, "I like them." And, it works... Just like Facebook.... I already have four people following me. ... Two police officers, a private investigator and a psychiatrist...
  6. Unless their military has changed recently, I doubt they will need any outside help. Since they tend to be more pro-west & pro-democracy than the current administration, I think it might work out better for us if the coup succeeds.
  7. LOL - I did indeed and I apologize. With Trump as a possible US president and Boris as the top UK diplomat, my error may seem trivial pretty soon. :-)
  8. Hi and welcome to Anglers' Net. I won't be of any direct help since I'm some 6500 Km to your west but I wanted to tell you we are glad to have you aboard.
  9. Strange times we live in but if an AN political topic can go to 158 pages and remain civil, it would seem that all things, no matter how unlikely, are possible.
  10. But think of the fun you could have getting every politician who publicly said/did something that offended you taken to court and prosecuted.
  11. I thought you were joking but sadly, you were not. It turns "hate crime" into some sort of bad joke. "What is hate crime? A crime that the victim or any other person perceives to be motivated by hostility or prejudice towards any aspect of a person's identity." Wow!!! That has to be some sort of record for vagueness. "'Violence and intimidation' The force defines misogyny hate crime as: "Incidents against women that are motivated by an attitude of a man towards a woman and includes behaviour targeted towards a woman by men simply because they are a woman." The classification now means people can report incidents which might not be considered to be a crime and the police will investigate." Not "can investigate" but "will investigate" which makes it mandatory no matter how silly or vague the report.
  12. After getting all of Pope Francis's luggage loaded into the limo at the airport, (and he doesn't travel light), the driver notices the Pope is still standing on the curb. 'Excuse me, Your Holiness,' says the driver, 'Would you please take your seat so we can leave?' 'Well, to tell you the truth,' says the Pope,'they never let me drive at the Vatican, and I'd really like to drive today.' "I'm sorry, Your Holiness, but I cannot let you do that. I'd lose my job! What if something should happen?" protests the driver, wishing he'd never gone to work that morning. 'Who's going to tell?' asks the Pope with a smile. Reluctantly, the driver gets into the back as the Pope climbs in behind the wheel. The driver quickly regrets his decision when, after exiting the airport, the Pontiff floors it, accelerating the limo to 130 mph. (Remember, the Pope is Argentinean, and Fangio the famous racer, was Argentinean.) "Please slow down, Your Holiness," pleads the worried driver, but the Pope keeps the pedal to the metal until they hear sirens. "Oh, dear God, I'm going to lose my license -- and my job!', moans the driver. The Pope pulls over and rolls down the window as the cop approaches; but the cop takes one look at him, goes back to his motorcycle, and gets on the radio. 'I need to talk to the Chief,' he says to the dispatcher. The Chief gets on the radio and the cop tells him that he's stopped a limo going 130 mph. 'So bust him,' says the Chief. 'I don't think we want to do that. He's really important,' said the cop. The Chief exclaimed, 'All the more reason!' 'No, I mean really important,' said the cop with a bit of persistence. The Chief then asked, 'Who do you have there, the mayor?' Cop: 'Bigger.' Chief: ' A senator?' Cop: 'Bigger.' Chief: 'The President?' Cop: 'Bigger.' 'Well,' said the Chief, 'who is it?' Cop: 'I think it's GOD! The Chief is even more puzzled and curious, 'What makes you think it's God?' Cop: 'His chauffeur is the Pope!
  13. If we define homeopathy as "using a substance that causes the symptoms of a disease in healthy people/animals to cure similar symptoms in sick people/animals" then I agree it is probably just so much bullshine and probably dangerous in many cases. I don't really see the use of herbals & some alternative treatments such as acupuncture as being in any way similar to the above.
  14. Wow!!! Good stuff and even after I watched a follow-up video about how it worked, I still don't have a clue how it works but it is seriously coo..
  15. Most political commentators aren't worth the powder to blow them up. We do have one who seems a cut above. He was confidently predicting that Donald Trump would not win the Republican nomination for president and said that he would eat a printed copy of one of his broadcasts if he turned out to be wrong. When Trump won the nomination that commentator solicited recipes for cooking a printed copy of a broadcast. He picked his favourite recipe and ate the cooked column on camera - all verified by one of his rivals. The whole Brexit aftermath is getting lots of media coverage over here and I absolutely do not envy you folks the situation you are in now.
  16. Comparing apples to ducks and reaching a conclusion - I am truly in awe of the way your mind works chesters. Truly.
  17. I always thought that game was a little too refined for me and this confirms it.
  18. ayjay - I hate to burst your bubble but most folks I know- own guns - never kill anyone (wars & soldiers excepted) - never commit any sort of crime with them. Granted, guns allow nutjobs to kill more than if they had to use other means but I really doubt that a lack of a gun would stop a nutjob from killing.

    Newbie

Yup. Welcome to the forum. Glad to have you with us. I've only drowned a few maggots in my time due to them being in such short supply on this side of the pond (at least for fishing) but I had fun with those few and wished for more. I've also left fishing for a time more than once but the returns were always great fun.

    New on here

Poler - welcome to Anglers' Net. You'll find a wide range of styles & opinions on here but for the most part, also an acceptance of most views. Friendly folks are always welcome. I know about as much about fishing the pole as a cat knows about calculus. I much prefer lures to any sort of actual bait. My wife & I are going to take a week for inshore fishing in Florida mangrove swamps this November and she will use shrimp or cut bait while I will use lures. She will outcatch me about 10 to 1 but we'll both have fun doing what appeals to us.
  21. I think Vagabond nailed it solidly on the head. Get the gear that suits you and the fish you will target and, most of all, just have fun with your fishing. Otherwise, what's the point.
  22. Absolutely not unique in 2016. However, athletic performances including gymnastics are vastly better today than they were 60+ years ago and what is routine now was almost unheard of back then.
  23. I agree Cory. The problem arises when you define exactly what constitutes a Public Service. I'm happy to pay for police, fire department, education to a certain level, public infrastructure such as roads, bridges, etc., military forces as needed, to keep those services fully functional. I'm resigned to the necessity of paying for some level of a dole to include housing, food, and health care. I'd like some say in exactly what a reasonable level would be. For instance, I do not appreciate paying for people who are 3rd generation of families on the dole and who are raising a 4th generation to do the same. That said, I'd even be comfortable with a system that set some sort of guaranteed minimal level of support to everyone to include lodging, food, health care, etc. but for anything above that, productive work to earn it would be required. "Work for it or do without" seems reasonable to me.
  24. Me too but no need to take up perfectly good daylight for this sort of thing. I record the games I want to watch. Bobbi is not a fan but she goes to bed shortly after midnight and I'm usually up to 3-4 in the morning so I watch after she goes to bed. The only trick is to avoid watching any news coverage until after I've watched the game. I don't do night fishing sessions these days and there isn't much to see in the garden in winter at night so it works out well.
  25. Mostly they seem to want to put their hands in your pocket to pay for it. That seems to be the way it works over here too.
