  1. It seems to me that the only people who buy the things are young chavs. And the only reason they buy them is to be as anti-social as they can. And what is hilarious is that is probably people like me who pay for them (indirectly). I hate them. Ban them.

    Native Fish?

I think you have a complete list there Tog, apart from all the weird sub-species of char, whitefish, trout etc. There is not much about history in my book apart from the carp, the author thinks they were introduced AFTER the dissolution of the monasteries and his opinion is that the monks ate perch. PS A few more: Lampern Silver Bream Sea Trout Goldfish! The book also mentions many sea fish which live in our rivers, you should look out a copy at a car boot sale or on ebay, I think you would enjoy its old fashioned style.
  7. I don't usually comment on jokes but that was exceptionally good - thanks Colin
  8. allibee....for what it's worth I think you write really well, go for it
  9. I hear they are feeding pandas viagra now. Your male panda is a bit disappointing in the sexual olympics I hear.
  10. Count me in Anthony, I am not too far from your stretch of canal and I would be very interested in day tickets......while I'm here can I just say how disconcerting it is to talk to a guy who has a pouting Kylie as his avatr.
  11. nursejudy....I know you tried to finish this thread but I would pause before spending 500 pounds (damn, where is that pound symbol?) Shop around, I just know that you can find a service and cambelt change for less than that. Also, please get a second opinion about the "tappet noise" it could be something else.
  12. Ferret1959....where do you think people are at 04:19 AM?
  13. I'm with Lyn on this one...thanks for posting the picture James
  14. Bloody right Gray-Catchpole, I was watching that movie too...on channel 5, right? It was just getting interesting and I was getting into Angelica Houston's character development when they pulled the plug and switched to some second rate war movie. I felt like throwing the TV out the window....except it's on the ground floor, so it wouldn't have done much damage

    Native Fish?

In my Observer's Book of Freswater Fishes of The British Isles (1941) there are 12 types of trout, 16 types of char, 2 types of powan and 4 types of gwyniad.....all with latin names.
  16. I LIKE female anglers and welcome them, after all, someone has to make breakfast and wash the dishes afterwards.

  18. nursejudy, Tappets as chesters1 says, are small adjustments that need doing periodically in your cylinder head but some cars have hydraulic tappets that need no adjustment. No big problem if you have a Morris Minor, can be complex in a modern engine though with double overhead camshafts etc. Also bear in mind that a knocking noise from an engine can frequently be mis-diagnosed as badly adjusted tappets, I would seek a second opinion before committing yourself to expensive work. I am sure there are others here more knowledgeable than I. Hope this helps.
  19. Hi Gary and welcome. I used to hire charter boats years ago with a bunch of mates. When we got out to a wreck it was very good but the thing that annoyed us most was when we would phone the skipper the night before and ask about the conditions and they would say that it was a bit rough but should be OK in the morning. We would set off from Berkshire for the south coast only to met by a hurricane and the skipper would insist it would be OK and took us to some useless inshore mark where we caught nothing. I know these guys were only trying to earn a crust but it put our little club off sea fishing altogether in the end. Hope this is some help to you.
  20. You could always try lure fishing: warm coat, wooly hat, spinning rod, landing net and a trout bag with box of lures and unhooking kit. Keep moving....lovely.
  21. No, two totally different styles. Both effective, just different. Have you ever considered buying a book about fishing? I had one when I was a kid and it was very helpful, especially the illustrations. In fact perhaps I should get an updated one, put it on my Xmas list
  22. My guess is that the flock of birds were starlings
  23. Mick, I'm not sure if this will be any help because I don't know much about XP. Most versions of Windows save your address book as a WAB file(windows address book) so doing a search for *.wab might find it. As for your other problem, I bought a neat little program off the Internet called Backrex, I run this before I move computers etc. save it to a CD, run it again from the CD on the new computer and all my email, addresses, favourites, cookies, dial-up connections etc. are put back automatically.
  24. Actually it is not illegal. The government recently made it illegal to spam businesses but not private individuals. Sometimes the only answer is a new email address.
