  1. Isnt this the same boat that had a buy it now price for £3000 and the reserve of the same. Someone bid up to a fiver short of the reserve and never 'won' it so logic says second chance must have come into play thereafter. Whats gone on between a fiver short of the reserve and a boat being offered for sale on a buy it now price some hundreds of pounds cheaper? Better off having a look and a run out in it before buying. If he's genuine he'll have no objections to either
  2. Mick I used to organise an early morning leaflet drop in targetted areas on the morning of the poll and the strict guidance of our local returning officer was that leaflets could not be delivered once the polling stations had opened. Should we have done so then we would have been deemed to have broken election law and could be prosecuted and it could in extreme cases lead to the result being challenged and any result in our favour was in danger of being legally overturned. I'd speak to the Electoral Registration Officer again to get a definitive answer if I were you. Good Luck Bri
  3. Its not illegal to knock on someones door on polling day to encourage them to go out and vote thats why parties canvass before an election and catch polling numbers of those going to vote. When the two are compared at the candidates election HQ you can tell if your potential voter has voted and if not you then have the opportunity to convince them to do so by knocking on their door Depending upon the time of polling stations opening will determine whether or not an election communication (leaflet)is legal or not. If the leaflet comes through the door before the polling stations open then its legal , after they open it becomes illegal and both the candidate and agent become liable under election law but not the person who pushed it through your letterbox unless it was one of the previous two mentioned. Hope this helps I have run election campaigns before as an agent and candidate and as I understand it the rules have not changed with regard to election communications Good luck with your local council Brian Regardless who people vote for I hope enough people vote and dont stay at home
  4. Matthew The use of maggots as a loose feed even when using worm on the hook is expressley forbidden. In Northumbria region we could use maggots for trout during the course fish closed season when fishing the River Tees but that changed some three years ago to harmonise all the old regional byelaws to aid trout and salmon stocks. Hardly need to say it but there are some up here who still dont know or choose to ignore the new rule
  5. Its not the type of rod that you use thats defined by the EA just the method. The only legal methods for fishing for trout are worm or fly , no other bait or method can be used before June 16th. However should those anglers be fishing for trout either with float or quivertip using worm for bait then they are fishing legally. If there are no trout in that section of the river and have never been any then thats a matter for the EA's legal team
  6. Not quite sure of your meaning If you mean whats the best way to kill them then a quick blanch in boiling water works best. Putting them in the freezer for a couple of days doesnt always work as they can come round again from a suspended state when defrosted
  7. I think that I must be in the minority because I actually get the jist of Paul postings and the sense of humour behind them. If that were to be his last post then that would be a shame because I actually agree with a lot of what he says (especially in relation to using char as bait, when to my knowledge using salmonoids as bait in Scotland is against the law and actually bragging about taking 31 of them for ferox bait) If you're still there Apollo 13 this is Houston calling , looks like you're in for a bumpy landing
  8. You could always try and raise your own get two sheeps or pigs hearts from the butchers and put them in a dark corner for a couple of days or hide them at the bottom of a garden and cover them with slates so that they remain dark. The flies will find them and after two days you will have enough fly blow on them to make plenty of maggots. Place the hearts into a bucket with a sealable lid on and the maggots will grow fat and quick on the now decomposing heart. The smell is awful when you take off the lid but riddle and clean the maggots and you will end up with pints of them for next to nothing. It doesnt matter where you live there must be a butchers or a meat counter at the supermarket somewhere close. Give it a try with just one heart and see how you get on.
  9. Plenty of the plano type boxs up here in middlesbrough the £4.99 ones and for the long stay angler there are a number of refrigerated cool boxs for sale at £25 with a jack plug for connecting to your car cigarette lighter. Some chesties available for £15 and polarised glasses at £3 a pair
  10. The Quantum reel you've ordered is a little cracker. My brother has one of the very same models and I think its a better buy than the Abu 6501 series as its certainly a freeer spooled reel and a cracking casting and well balanced piece of kit.
  11. Have a look at dave lumbs site as well at http://www.dlst.co.uk and between the two I'm sure that if youre anything like me you'll be like a kid in a sweetshop , wide eyed and just itching to part with some cash and go home with some goodies
  12. Try Andy Scziglenski ( hope I've spelt it right) at lure mania, web address is http://www.luremania.co.uk as he has a range of ultra lite reels in stock many coming direct from bass pro in the states. Try a google search to get the correct site and have a look at his on line catalouge. If you ring him ring after tea time on an evening as you will be able to speak to him or his better half directly. Don't worry who you speak to as many say his wife is the better angler of the two as she seems to catch more and bigger ones than Andy. If they have'nt got any reels suitable for your purpose they will be able to advise where you can get what you require but my monies onAndy coming up trumps Cheers Brian
  13. Hi Snatcher Yes there are good pike to be had in Auchenreough Loch as well as ells, perch and a good head of roach. Like you I travel from the north east (Redcar) to South West Scotland and pass many good waters on the way. If you want to send me a PM with your phone no. I'll give you a ring with some info for the future. Opposite Auchenreough but not visible from the road is Milton Loch another one worth fishing. Lock Ken is just down the road and one of my favourite waters and Woodhall Loch not too far behind it.Clatteringshaws is above Ken but it can be a bit on the wild side. Castle Loch and Loch Rutton are also worth a visit as is Lochmaben at Lockerbie and Carlingwark Loch at Castle Douglas and Kellhead just the other side of Annan, not forgetting the three lochs at Newton Stewart ,lochs Ronald and Heron being the only two you can fish for course species. Some of the above are free fishing and some are day tickets. Will look forward to some info on White loch when you go
  14. Reminds me of someone I know a perfectly balanced chap with a chip on both shoulders and as such some of his comments are a little difficult to live with. Obviously not aimed at anyone on this site
  15. Best of luck in letting your boat go Sam. I was tempted last time I saw your post for free cuddy boat with trailer so I looked to see where Dengie is. A long way to travel from Redcar otherwise I would have bitten your hand off. Good luck Brian
  16. I'm not going to fall for the old line that Labour is anti angling because it plainly isnt so. They have come out in anglings support and have consistently done so since 1996 they also support shooting. As someone who has been active in Labour politics for over 25 years I have never heard so much tosh when Labour and angling get mentioned in the same breath. 99.9% of all the people I've met within politcs support angling , a lesser number support shoting but I support both and always say so at every opportunity. Shooting is a sport where the quarry always makes the table unless of course its vermin like rats.
  17. Nah ... how about Vivaldi?
  18. just flagging this up again for all of us northern brothers of the Esox
  19. crumb is made into groundbait and it is as Rudd said roasted breadcrumbs so will readily sink. Liquidized bread is made from fresh sliced bread and when gently squeezed and thrown into the water will disperse into a cloud of fine bread particles. How deep it will sink before breaking up into particles depends on how hard its squeezed before throwing.
  20. In view of some of the comments on various threads I thought I would ask the question to see if members think charter boats are included in the commercial sector or if they think they should be classified as recreational fishing vessels
  21. Wurzel I don't think youve read my post correctly. I have not mentioned licences for trawling or netting for the part timers only licences for the potters and I'm not mixing the two up. The area I'm refering to is the North Eastern Sea Fisheries area of responsibility an area I believe you know rather well from your Whitby fishing days. The 10 pot rule only applies to this particular SFC and I was using it as an example of how other fisheries committies could also draught regulations of a similar vein. Some posters on this thread have said that the shellfish fishing is in danger of collapse but from the lobster returns and the numbers of berried hens and juvenille lobsters I dont think that to be the case. Hen lobsters have their tails nicked and berried hen get bought, tails nicked and returned to the water.Once compensation for the lobster has been paid and then returned it cannot be landed again , this was an idea that has been carried out in Ireland succesfully and adopted over here. Fully agree with your sentiments about regulations on quotas as to a layman they dont seem to make any sense
  22. Maximo If the various sea fisheries committies really wanted to they could bring in rules that prohibited the kind of fishing that you describe. They could also restrict part time fishermen to the type of net used and also to the length of net permissable. Similaly the same rules can also be applied to all the part time potters that also fish. In our area part time fishermen are only allowed 10 pots and can only land a maximum of two lobsters in any one day all enforceable by law. All potters have to be registered to catch shellfish. If that can be done here then it can also be done elsewhere. The thing to remember here is that all those part timers who fish throughout our shores also have full time jobs elsewhere and only put their gear out in any quantity whenever fish or lobsters show in any numbers and due to the fact that they can afford the best of gear due to their full time jobs then the catch to gear ratio is very very good. It will come in time where part time fishing (not recreational) will be phased out and the only people to be able to make money from the sea will be those who are licenced and full time. If that happened then it may well happen that recreational fishing areas will be easier to obtain and manage and total exclusion orders may well come into play.
  23. thats the end of the stud fees then
  24. True but you still need a licence even to fish your own pond
