  1. Couldn't agree more! I fished at Beccles last Saturday. Fishing was suprisingly good just after low tide, but as the tide came up, the fishing died. On breaking my tackle down, I bit through my weak link off my boom (as you do) and the taste of salt ran through my mouth...kinda explains why the fishing died, I think. The Flood Alleviation scheme must be a factor at the very least? Back on topic...I've signed (number 792) and urge anyone, whether you're local or not, to sign - you may one day have a trip up to the broads in the future, it would be a great shame if you couldn't fish the broads as they are now....arguably some of the best fishing locations in the country.
  2. Disgraceful isn't it? I've seen people lay up their rods like this, jump in the car and go to sleep! Makes my blood boil, it really does.
  3. Welcome aboard Colin, from one Lowestoftian to another.
  4. Hi all, Anyone else going to fishomania this coming Saturday? There's very little information online about it, but I'm lucky enough to get a ticket Was wondering if anyone knew what celebrities are fishing in their match?
  5. Hello folks, I'm fishing in my first ever match at Cross Drove in a few weeks time as was looking for some advice, whether it be venue-specific or just match fishing generally. Given the time of year, I suspect fishing mid-to-shallow water with 'little and often' feeding to be the best bet. What baits would you recommend I have with me. How should I start? What species should I primarily target? I've never been to the venue and it's a little too far away from me to go and look around in advance, so any advice would be welcome! Thanks in advance!
  6. No joke, I've found Jaffa Cakes work exceptionally well on bright days in the summer for surface carp fishing! I punch them with a bread bunch, size dependant on water.
  7. What a sad story, Peter I'm guessing this won't be reported in the LJ...I can only imagine how distressing that would be for the family present.
  8. Thumb just in the mouth, with fingers around the 'chin' to gills, is the best way, IMO. Having your thumb in their mouths tends to calm them, IMO.
  9. Thanks Peter, I'll look out for them
  10. Yeah, I've read into it and it doesn't look like it's gonna have any affect on Cuba. Despite this, it doesn't stop both mine and Emma's (my partner's) family calling and asking 'are you still going?' 'I don't think you should be going', etc Still, it brings a new meaning to the old saying in reference to holidays 'it'll be good to blow the codwebs away' if a hurican does passby close
  11. Oh dear......just heard about Alpha...someone 'up there' really doesn't want me to have a good holiday this year
  12. Counted 6, sorry Emz Not a genius though LOL Trick with any form of 'proof reading' is to read sentances backwards. It's the only way of digesting data effectively, without being scewed by the subject's contents.
  13. Cockroaches? Cockerals? Can we have more than one guess each? *hunts for a copy and pastable dictionary and selects entire listing for letter C ready*
  14. Just thought I'd add a related comment to say I'm off to Northern Cuba on Wednesday and am no longer the least bit worried about this...life's too short, ain't it?
  15. Thanks very much for the advice, Nick Saw the exact same pump (on the maggotdrowners forum) in Angling Direct for £15, so clearly a good buy I'll def. give this a shot On the subject of freezing soft pellet...I've tried this too, and I've found there's very little in between them being to hard, then being too soft...I'll give up on 'em and go for pumping expanders, cheers!
  16. Nick, that was the next thing for me to try, thanks for taking the time to describe the process. It's good to know it's not just mean who's had this problem. Even if it's just the odd 'duff' tub, I'm not gonna keep spending £3 to enter a 'soft pellet lottery'...don't these companies believe in quality control? I'm gonna give the expander route a go and see what happens. Thanks all

    Sad!

Although I haven't had the pleasure to play this game yet, I'll say this...don't knock it until you've tried it, matey I've only heard good things about this game. BTW, does anyone know if this game is available to purchase online, for downloading rather than on CD-ROM via snail-mail?
  18. Why thank you sir I'd stick up a wonderful pic of a fish I've caught, but that's the only aspect I haven't quite got yet...catching a fish *joke*
  19. Ah, gotcha...offer still stands, any time. I already run two forums of my own, and moderate (one of several moderators) another much larger commercial forum elsewhere. Have also been involved in the technical development of a number of communities over the years, so, yes, I totally know where you're coming from right now
  20. Hi all, Just wanted to make a comment on these. I'm fairly new to using pellet on the hook and have been trying varying brands (yet to find one I truely like). Tried using the 'Ringers' soft hook pellets and have to say I was very disappointed. After paying £2.99 for a small tub, at the least I expected them to be stiff enough to stay on a hook! I tried all ways of hooking them and none of them stayed on the hook, even when simply dropped in the water! Anyone else had the same problem/experience with them? Anyone recommend a brand of soft pellet that will do the job I want it to? I guess I hope this topic will help other buyers make an informed decision before parting with cash
  21. I won't bother commenting next time then! No, I didn't listen to the program. I'm far too busy to right now, but bookmarked the page. I offered a comment based on my own opinion, along the same lines of the issue here. I agree to some extent about 'mothballing' the vessels to allow fish stocks to recover, but unless the government are prepared to fund such a thing, it'll never happen. The issues Grimsby are going through now have already been experienced here in Lowestoft. That's why I felt my original reply had some value!
  22. Doesn't look like avatars have been transfered to the new software. To add a new avatar, go to 'My Controls' and then select the option 'Edit Avatar Settings' under the heading 'Personal Profile' down the left hand side and upload a new avatar
  23. Hi Elton, I can't really advise on that as I'm not familar with this software. But, at a guess, if you see an option along the lines of 'forum preferences and settings' and look for an option to change permissions. Prehaps there's a 'manage permissions' option. If there is, look for the option to change guest permissions and there'll no doubt be a solution in there. If it's really confusing you and you want a hand, I'd be happy to lend a hand if you care to give me the permissions to help out. Drop me a PM if you like
  24. Blog is short for 'weblog'. A blog is, in simple terms, an online diary where the 'blogger' can add entries whenever they feel like it www.blogger.com is the world's largest collection of blogs, prehaps browsing that site will prove worthwhile to get an idea of what blogging is all about
