  1. sounds good, dont do a lot of baiting up my self, where I have just come back from, not a lot of free baiting done, just a nice big flake of bread, the 23lber came to half a slice of bread wraped around the hook crust taken off fished on its own in a sluice gate area, had a lot of carp out of this area, shame I only go once a year. mick
  2. I would still try and stick with the float, get the balance right and you can have some good fun. I have just came back from a week down in Dawlish warren, where I go each year to fish for carp and anything else, I and all the locals always fish it with a waggler, I have had fish to 23lb 12oz. but that was using carp rods and 12lb line size 8 hook.
  3. have a rod with a similar butt, if it is like my daiwa sensor avon twin tip, it has with quiver tip, 4 pieces, butt, middle piece, then the tip piece with a yellow push quiver tip. it also has another seperate tip section, which you can use screw in quiver tip or swing tip.
  4. beat me to it, before that they were leisure sport
  5. not sure but is it not the Cemex Angling Thorpe Lea day ticket lake. ON THE Cemex Angling site.
  6. nice to see this one has now got back to normal, after all we all get deep hooked fish at some time, just a quick note for Janet, if you wanted to fish for the carp without breaking everything down, on a float set up, what I do is pull the float up the line, plus any shot right up under the float, stick a big bit of bread on and wait for the fireworks, not ideal but I have had many carp which I have seen on surface, but not been fishing for. but of course it would depend on the line used as well.
  7. know what you mean, had a stinker myself yesterday, we decided to go to lizard lakes in west drayton. Picked my mate up went to get some money to pay, found out he had none, so change of venue as we didn't have enough money between us. so we decided to go to bedfont lakes. when we got there, had a look around, went to get tackle from car, on way back to the lake with the gear, going through the gate, over I went straight on top of my bag, luck it was not the rods, but one turned ankle and a bit of hurt pride, well needless to say could not walk to far, we went to the nearest swim as could not walk to where we wanted, but not to bad, as a 28lb carp came from the swims in a match the week before. well at the end of the day no fish, sunburn and a turned ankle was all I had to show. for my 12hrs fishing.
  8. I Definately agree, HAVE BEEN BUYING IYCF, for 10 years now still have every copy, have found lots of good ideas, on all forms of fishing.
  9. had a day similar while on holiday in Dawlish 2 years ago, was having my usual walk around the lake, knew I could not fish that part of the day as we were going out, got down the end by the sluice, see some nice carp, a lad of about 12 asked what I was looking at, so I told him, said he was going to fish, so I asked if he had the tackle to catch the carp, then told him how to go about it. so off I went for my day out, came back at about 3 in the afternoon, the said young lad had his rod bent almost double, so parked the car up to give him a hand, landed his biggest fish 14lb carp on bread as I had said, broke his landing net while landing the carp, so went back to chalet to get my tackle as I could see there still some carp around the area, said I would fish with him, so if he caught another one could help him land it. so down I went, he was fishing well, I was enjoying it having help him earlier, then down came his freinds, fighting and mucking about on the bank, banging and throwing things about, I just got fed up with this, then moved up the other end of the lake. well the sting in the storey is about 11/2hours later I notice they had gone left some of their tackle there, so I went back down there, first cast back in and I was into a carp which is still my pb, of 23lb 12oz, as I was playing the fish in the lad came bank on his own and asked if he could land it for me, which he did. but after I said to him if he had not been mucking about that would have been his fish, serves him right. still hasn't stopped me helping kids, if they need it or ask, as long as it is within reason.
  10. SET OF HAND CUFFS FROM OUT IN THE MIDDLE OF THE THAMES, IN FEB A FEW YEARS AGO, IT WAS FLOWING VERY FAST, TOOK A GOOD 15 MINS TO GET IN STILL HAVE THEM IN THE SHED.
  11. Got a bonus today didn't think I would be going, as it is my daughters birthday, so don't normally go out, it was nice and dry when I got my stuff together, but as soon as I got to the river, I was hit by hailstones and a thunder storm, so just stayed under the brolly, in the end got a bit wet, but got 4hrs fishing and came out with one modest chub of 1lb 7oz. the river was chucking it through and ripping the weed up.
  12. not while fishing but after my last time out, I decided to dip some bollies for use the next time I went, well that was on the 1st April, not been since, went out to the shed to get the mower out to do the grass, found the wife had put something in the shed, knocked my bag over, I forgot to put the lid on properly, so when I picked the bag up. soaked in half a bottle of fusion dip well soaked in, just finished cleaning the bag, I hope, a bit of a expensive mess, and still smell the dip on my hands even after a good wash.
  13. wait till you land a set of handcuffs, from the middle of the Thames, just down from Kingston bridge, with the Thames in full flow, took a good 10mins to land, still in there leather pouch.
  14. you could try the exeter, canal river exe, plenty of fishing down there, its just finding what you want
  15. never tried this, but most of my biggest carp have all come to bread, including my pb of 23lb 12oz, caught on the bottom on half a slice of bread, with the crust pulled of and rolled around the hook, then squeesed down, dampened then fished on a waggler over depth on the bottom, had many carp from a water down in dawlsh devon, that i fish for a week once a year.
  16. got a copy of the video many years ago now from hugh miles, has seen better days now watched so many times, signed by all 3 of them, great series hope the new one is as good, and if he gets a chance to finish the other one, with chris should be good, love the way he crosses the wild life, with the fishing, narration and music.
  17. with me its mainline, started with active 8, but over last 3 years its been fusion, great bait, have been trying the pulse, but not much luck as yet.
  18. used to like the aquarium in plymouth, until they changed it, it used to start as a little trickle up in the mountains, then go down to the sea, showing all the different types of fish, in the different streams, rivers and sea, with samples of the fish in various tanks, very nice seeing the fish in there natural inviroment, shame they changed it.
  19. think you will find it is Thorpe Lea, it is a cemex lake, www.cemexangling.co.uk, Korda are holding their Carpfest 2007, from June 30th to 1st July. have also read it is a day ticket water.
  20. did my pb twice on the 01/04/2007 while fishing with 12lb line semi fixed rig, size 8 hook and a fusion bollie, for carp, first one was 4lb 12oz, then had 1 of 8lb.
  21. think mine is just to keep improving catching bigger fish and do more river fishing, as I really got back into it for the last 3 weeks of the season. been out today to try and better my carp pb 23lb 12oz, got a bit of a shock, first pb of the day was a 4lb 12oz bream, then came a 4lb 8oz tench, then the real shock came a 8lb bream, which was double the size of my pb at the start of the day, not bad as I have never seen a bream come out in 5 years of fishing this water, also lost 4 fish hook pulls but no sign of the carp.
  22. ordered mine off the web site Thursday or Friday, recieved it this morning, sounds like it might depend on the area you live in.
  23. some nice fish there, have yet to catch a barbel my self, but then hadn't fished a river for 6 years, had a end of season rush have been out 3 times in last 2 weeks, got a unexpected afternoon yesterday, managed 2 chub 1 x 3lb 4oz 1 x 1lb 4oz , bigger one had me in a fallen tree, and the flow along there was unbelievable, didn't think I would get it in, crazy thing was, once unhooked and returned, went to cast out again to find my rig had fallen apart, not quite sure what happened, found the ledger but nothing else, so a very lucky capture.
  24. well managed to get down there again today, for about 5hrs. first cast went straight into the tree again, managed to get it all back. then tackled up again next cast a 1lb 12oz chub another pb, then lost another one, then went to the other side of the tree, where I managed to catch a 2lb 1oz chub, had quite a few more bites, but nomore fish, but a nice birthday anyway, better than work and a whole river to myself.
  25. had been trying to get down there for a few weeks, there was some big fish losses about 5 years ago, so wern't sure if there was going to be any fish there, was told there was a 4 lb chub caught there a Few days before, also told there are still some carp around, but I am not after them on the river. Not all good news yesterday, broke the quiver tip not repairable, good job I had 3 universal ones that did fit, also managed to kick all my box of rig bits, floats hooks weights the lot all over the bank, cast up the tree 3 times and broke my line, prob because used to using 12lb line when carping not the 4lb line I was using on the river. Still hope it is not raining next wednesday, will have another go.
