  1. Little Onions, You are asking a question of biology. All the pre-planning in the world will not overcome the biological drive of a relationship if down deep you both have the desire. I say consent to the emotions, go for it down and dirty, no risk, no pleasure. Phone Unless, of course, there are ethical issues ie. you or he is still married. [ 21. 2. Elton, The only thing that takes more kit than angling is a baby. How about a van with side door? I see you've learned when it is best to "fight another day". You're lucky she didn't puke on you. Save your ultimatims for important occasions like fishing. Once you have agreed to go the Church it is always going to be a down hill slide. Newt, Did you say you've had more than one wife? I would get decked by my lovely bride, Precious were I to deliver such a line. Yes, she does wear the pants on the occasional Sunday. Phone Evo's should only be owned by those who can also afford a tow truck. God often will be invoked is dispare.
  3. I too smoked for 30 odd years. I have now been "clean" for about 20 yrs. Still, when the phone rings I reach for my pocket. When I need a moment to conjer up a thought, I reach for my pocket. Phone
  4. Elton, No - and - NO! Phone. who's also a wimp.
  5. Chesters1, I'm sure you're a CAREING parent. What of those who don't have the benefit of your attention? Seems to me you are ready and willing to write them off. The world is not that simple. Good deeds cannot be defined by the actions of societies maladjusted. I'll bet you don't play the lottery either. Phone

Chesters1, They will move from little old ladies to little old men and start snatching tackle. I believe teaching the next generation worthwhile activities including angling enriches society. The little imps will choose for themselves later but at least they will have a working knowledge of the choices. Phone

Having taught literally thousands how to hook their neighbor in the ear I am here to tell you given the opprotunity they will be littering the banks rather than snatching purses in the city. Chesters is promoting purse snatching! Phone
  8. Elton, Good for you! When we found out our firs was on the way I told my lovely bride Pecious now that I've done the hard part surly she should be able to do the rest. Raising kids is like falling off a limb. Phone You should start practicing "yes dear" right away.
  9. What is the name for a rig that is opposite a boilie on a hair? IE. the hook is below the bait. Phone
  10. If you Brits are constantily eating and drinking whilst fishing in the winter how do you keep from swallowing your worms whilst keeping them warm? Phone
  11. Steve, If you'll come back we'll try harder! Somehow those of us in America that drink tea prefer it steeped in hot, not boiling, water. Boiled tea is much too strong to suit my taste. Bring Chesters along with you although I beleive he is beyond teaching. BTW tea from India seems most pleasing to the taste on the great plaines of the US midwest. Phone Edit: Regarding the straw poll. I like a bottle of hot Dr. Pepper (a cola soft drink) and a little beef jerky. [ 16. October 2002, 02:10 AM: Message edited by: phonebush ]

I have a question. Can a father and son fish together? Uncle and nephew? How about an older second cousin and a younger one or two? How many children must be present before you are a coach and how distant can relatives be? Phone
  13. Perhaps the stench in the dustbins would be reason enough to ban tinned pet foods. I read somewhere if you (assuming you're human) were stranded on an island dry dog food would be the most balanced single food for survival. Bruno, Four and a half tonnes of anything in a three acre lake could not be healthy. In fact, that much perfectly balanced dietary offerings would not be healthy. Sometimes the answer lies in limiting the number of anglers rather than the type of bait. Sounds reasonable in your case that the answer becomes obvious. Are the owners willing to give up the income. Phone
  14. In the US a high percentage of serious anglers make their own bait. Probably because of local availability. Personally I rate highly a corn gluten strawberry ketchup mixture. It can be softened to be used as a hookbait or used on a hair. Conversations over here revolve around ingredients rather than bait manufacturers. My question, how many serious carp anglers in the UK use bait they make up themselves?
  15. Are the UK grayling the same species as those found in Canadian and Alaskan waters? Phone
  16. dave_h, Hang in there! 34 million lure fishermen in the US cannot all be wrong. Phone, who is a diehard bait fisherman.
  17. Newt is correct that they are chewy. Unless properly prepared they have a rather strong flavor not unlike canary tounges. Wisconsin is about the only place still canning them because of the Scandivanian population. (And, a few French) Phone
  18. Here is the response from IFGA on the subject when e-mailed for an explaination. There has not been a rule change. IGFA rules have always stated that the bait must be firmly attached to the hook, or the hook must be embedded in the bait. The reason people are complaining is that over the years, IGFA approved carp records not knowing exactly what a boilie was, or how a hair rig worked. Once this was discovered, we had no choice but to go back and retire all records that were found to be using hair rigs, or boilies that were dangling from the hook. Boilies themselves are not a violation of IGFA rules. In fact, in recent months, several records have been submitted using boilies, and there have not been any glaring violations. We take them on a case by case basis and determine by photographs if the boilie is a violation. But every definition I have seen of the hair rig has stated that it dangles beyond the hook. That is the rule violation right there. I hope to come up with a statement regarding boilies and hair rigs, to help anglers determine what is and is not acceptable for records. Obviously, there is no law stating that hair rigs are "illegal", nor do we have worldwide authority regarding laws. But for carp anglers, I want to be able to make a statement that is clearer than the general statements that are seen in the rules. Doug Blodgett International Game Fish Association World Records Administrator www.igfa.org <http://www.igfa.org> Phone A small victory for freelining. At least someone else believes the angler should to a greater extent participate in catching the quarry. With a bolt and hair seems to me the fish catches itself while the angler is in his bivy or in the case of US anglers his tent. [ 03. October 2002, 10:44 PM: Message edited by: phonebush ]
  19. I believe IGFA is the only body for WORLD records. I guess it is OK to hold a club or national record with a fish caught illegall by the balance of the world. (Slight prick intended) Phone
  20. I believe IGFA is considered "the body" as "International" record keepers by the manufacturing community. They, the manufactruers can no longer make fair claims about equipment records without some sort of disclaimer. IGFA is the "standard". While IGFA is located in Flordia it is much like the United Nations being located in New York and has little to do with International records including those held by or in the UK. If not IGFA then who does the UK recognize for FAIRLY caught record fish? If you don't play by the rules your fishing not angling. Phone Greg, I believe the sited rules are only for fish caught using hookbait. Artificial bait(s) has its own definition. It appears a hair rig is neither fish nor foul and is considered a form of snagging. [ 01. October 2002, 10:15 PM: Message edited by: phonebush ]
  21. This was copied from a post in another forum. What's the thinking here? Equipment regulations, paragraph G. Hooks for bait fishing Section 1.."...hooks must be imbedded in, or securely attached to the bait. And Section2..."The use of a dangling or swinging hook is prohibited..." So, based on this rule, the IGFA has retired Christian Baldemair's 82 lb. 12 oz. (37.30 kg) world record, and will also retire the next runner up. All told, the group will retire six record fish, due to the use of the hair rig. The rule was made to discourage the snagging or foul-hooking of fish, but the hair rig was devised to hook the fish in the mouth, which it does nearly 100% of the time. Of course, these arguments were made to the association, but "rules are rules." 22. Gaffer, If that is a pop at carp anglers you should come to the midwestern part of the US to get a new perspective. We, carp anglers are considered way below the salt celler here. Phone
  23. Alan, Well a paylake is sort of a day ticket lake I think. I have not fished either. The difference being the object of a paylake is to win money from others in competition. Sort of a day ticket/match fishing combo. Gambling and prize money is the first priority of a paylake and can be quite expensive for the losers. Paylakes are in the Southwest US as angling venues where you can "put your money where your mouth is" sort of fishing against others who claim expertise. Rather large sums change hands daily. The fish in both, I hope, are treated with respect and care by the anglers and fish owners. This type fishing is popular only in a small part of the US. Phone BTW Permits are required to move these fish.
  24. Specimen Carp (over 30 lbs) are successfully moved into various venues called "paylakes" by the ton using large trucks here in the US. I sometime think carp anglers in the UK tend to under estimate the survivability of the species. Phone For a definition of "paylake" ask Newt.
  25. Newt, The first, as I remember was "Brian SA", however, you may be correct. It is not a rig common to the US, that's for sure. Phone
