  1. I'd be interested but just where is Barton Court? Thinking the old adage dont volunteer until you know what for.
  2. This water is not free. It belongs to the IPA which is affiliated to several clubs that share the fishing rights. For Free fishing all of Bedford town is free from Queens park all the way to cardington mill Some of the hiz and Flit might be free aswell How far up in North Bedford Are you?.
  3. This all seems strange to me. I have fished the upper Ouse most of my life and am yet to see an otter. I've seen mink, herons, kingfisher cormorants pike and the odd Zander and Trout but never have i seen an otter. Over the twenty odd years i've been fishing the ouse its changed. Once it use to be full of small stuff with the odd bigger Chubb and the rare Barbel , Then The chub and barbel came into prominence now they may be declining but one thing i believe is its just a natural cycle of a river. Fish grow bigger and die small fish start over the cycle again. The one thing i really do notice at the moment Is the lower water levels and the unrestrained weed growth. Maybe the cycle is just starting over again from a time before i can remember it.
  4. This is an easy question. The answer is any rig your confident with. Night fishing isnt the time to fart about with rigs just use what your confident with during the day.
  5. Hi Anderoo your post got me thinking about the line bites especially at Wingham. What i'm wondering is , If we're using bobbins that are far heavier than needed. I remember reading something about fishing for bream using slackish line rather than being tight to the tip. The theory being if it was slack the fish would swim over or under it with little resistance. Using a lighter bobbin would achieve this as it wouldnt pull the line taught.
  6. Hi budgie it should fit if its the extendable type to adjust to the size of seat. The only thing i would do is get some bungs made up on the legs as the octoplus legs are smaller and you may find there to much of a sloppy fit over them.I think you can actually buy conversion bits to adapt the two now aswell. I made my own footplate for octoplus legs years ago.
  7. The only thing i ask canoeist to do if entering my swim is not paddle but coast through it where possible. Or Stick to one bank or the other. I've never had a real problem.
  8. Hi and Welcome The waters Luton AC have are North House Lake and part of the south Lagoon with the river that runs behind them. Havnt fished North house for over 20 years but it use to be a good bream venue. I believe there now getting specimen carp out of it. Luton also have river at eaton socon (never fished it) Further down the A1 you have the ivel which in parts is great for chub. Other than this tiny bit of info i cant help much either.
  9. Add your own chain and padlock. If he damages them he's in the same position as you. Make sure his car is there when you do though much more fun. PS can i join the club as a locksmith i can still use the track without damaging his gate to get down it.
  10. If The waggler really cant move the only real option is stret pegging a method not used much nowadays. As for feed All my big catches of chubb on flowing water have all been made feeding only loose feed and depending on what reaction i'm getting this can mean anything from a dozen maggots a cast to 3-4 handfuls a cast. My main bait has always been bronze maggot. I've had over 100lbs in a session before but used a close to a gallon of maggot
  11. Dont know how far south of bedford you are. I use to fish cardington mill years ago and for the perch, would lip hook a minnow and fish it on a paternoster with about a 3 ft hook length. The paternoster rig meant i could set the height above the bottom i wanted the bait to hover in the flow.
  12. Why Use a Baitrunner on a river??? So you dont loose your bloomin rod. I use a bait runner when Barbel fishing set quite tight (the rod bends a lot before line is given) Quite simply some barbel takes are like carp they'll have the rod out of the rest and into the river as fast as you can react Like the others have said i would use flat leads and trying using a thinner line the same strength (pre stretched etc) I'm not a lover of braid mainlines for barbel fishing but thats just me.
  13. I can see the logic in the method for working out the contours of a water but personally i think i'll just stick to my marker float method.
  14. Am i right in believing the Wels catfish record has been suspended due to imported fish? Personally i think the carp record will go the same way. THe british record list is getting a hint of Garlic
  15. Welcome to AN Depends what you are after but you have loads of canal on your doorstep plus startop, marsworth and wilstone resevoirs. Out towards Thame you have the river Thame up at leighton buzzard you get the start of the ouzel, Further up in MK you have loads of lakes and the upper ouse. If i remember correctly there;s a tackle shop on an industrial estate ask in there and i'm sure they'll point you in the right direction.
  16. Thats the weight each competitor weighed in. IE 4-11-0 = 4Lb 11 oz 0 Drams 2-3-0 = 2Lb 3 ounces 115-0-0 = A bloody net full
  17. I personally wouldnt change anything on the set up. Just have the confidence that your tackle can do its job wether your using 4lb line or 20 lb line . If they head for a snag just put the rod tip in the water apply side strain and dont give line. You'll be suprised how much pressure it will tak to snap the line and more often than not the fish will kite sideways away from the snag.I have had Barbel out of the river up to 10lb on 3lb line and a size 18 hook. So landing big fish on light line isnt impossible just needs a bit more patience.
  18. There's really only two causes that i can think of to cause crystal wagglers to split or crack the first we can rule out because thats old age. but i have some that are over 10 yrs old so they last a fair while. The other is abuse. If your casting at things like rocks. sides of boats etc and striking them this will crack the floats and once cracked there useless. peacock wagglers tend to be slightly more durable but realistically its a case of improving your casting.
  19. Summat very weird happening here i replied to this yesterday and its vanished Northampton Nene Angling Club control the stretch of the Ouse your on about
  20. Your forgetting all the guys on the Vauxhall bank lol I might be opposite you tuesday night depending how it goes on the pits.
  21. Chubb thats the guys i was on about Btw elton if you want to modify this link through your Ebay listing hers the rod i meant http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/max-p-avon-quiver-3-...93%3A1|294%3A50
  22. email the supplier of the spinning rod they have loads of rods available but dont always post everything. They'll put it on especially for you or just arrange it via the email.
  23. Pasties Small F1 carp normally stocked in there hundreds varying in size from 8oz to 1lb F1's that are a fast growing strain of carp that are stocked purely to attract anglers. Unfortunately they are infertile and are not a long term investment in a water more of a filler. You might get the hint i dont like them lol.
  24. Not a recognised tackle manufacturer But do a search for MAX Performance on ebay they do a 12FT avon for about £20 + postage. I have a cpl i'd ay they were equivalent to a lot of the rods in the £50-£75 bracket just without the name. They are based in Daventry and if you cant see one listed just email them and they'll sort one for you.
