  1. Hi MrWiggly, Having spoken to you recently, I hope you enjoy your move and have a long healthy and happy retirement. I wish you and your wife all the best, and I for one will miss you on here. Come back soon. Good luck my freind Cameraman
  2. Here are the rules. Each person has 24 hours to grab the picture, add one edit and repost the picture. Its basically a "for fun" thing so edits can be serious, funny, trippy or whatever. The picture you post must still resemble the original posted picture. Comments/discussion are welcome on the thread and if you can add a few words on what you did to the image it would benefit others who are starting out in using image editors. Current List is: Ollie Jay The Ferret Steve Wirral TB Cameraman If anyone else wants in or out just shout up.
  3. Well done, Like Steve said I'd have tried to fill the frame more, but you can always crop.
  4. In your excitement to post, don't forget to re size Looking forward to them
  5. Not so sure I'd use tripod for a fast moving game unless you know where the action is likely to be, and can pre determine settings. Try tripod half game and not other half. Trial and error. Use burst shots but not video. Burst or multiple shots will give you a better chance to catch action. Video, I think, can't be split into individual shots. At least it can't on my wifes, and mine does not give that option. Besides vieo will eat up your memory fast. Use a fast shutter speed, or small aperture. Adjust your white balance for conditions. Overcast, cloudy, shadows etc. Adjust your ISO speed, 100 if bright, try 200 if a little cloudy or overcast. The higher number you go, faster film speed, the more grainy your pic will be. Keep camera out of rain. Take your time, take plenty of shots, don't be afraid to experiment. Cheers

  7. Mr Wiggly: from EOS magazine, do you want the link, I no longer subscribe but I can go look if you like. Chesters 1, you could always use a diffuser,(white hankie over flash)?
  8. How about a simple slave flash, or two. They go off with camera flash (no wires) and take 1 AA battery. I've even used them outdoors to side light a car. Cost £10 on a buy one get one free.
  9. I think you've made a good investment, the quality is excellant and especially for the range.
  10. I take it you bought the big one then?
  11. I use 'canon pixma ip 5000' compatable with camera or computor, also has pict bridge. All colours individual, and black has two tanks, one for normal document type printing so no waste. Very affordable inks, locally but I presume that depends on how much you use them. I use the paper from pound land, proffesional high gloss, and it gives superb results. I give most of my pictures away, or they go into albums, so the cost is reflective. Even for the bigger prints to frame at A4 the results are only marginal from the labs. Hope this helps
  12. You can join in Den, "lightened the shadows" thats what I was looking for sometimes takes someone else to point out the obvious I must be trying too hard Cheers
  13. The 18 - 55 is probably the best kit lens canon do. However if you fancy splashing the cash look for the L (L for luxury) lens, failing that a fast lens or IS (image stabilising).
  14. Just buy the body, plenty of kit lens going cheap on e bay. Any EF fit will work.
  15. Clicked on image, then adjustments, then brightness and contrast, back to image, adjustments then levels, back to image, adjustments then Hue saturation, back to image, adjustments then color balance. Just had a play around to try keeping color in sky but brightening up foreground.
  16. Feeling a little under the weather today, took the day off for some fresh air and good company(my wife), took this view over Sheffield Thought it maybe from an angle you hadn't seen before. I also took this one of Robin Hoods cave at Stanage edge in Derbyshire, I was intending to enter it into the current challenge for bridges, but wasn't sure it would be allowed It was taken at the extreme end of my biggest lens, cos I didn't feel like walking the hill to get closer, lazy I know but I'm a bit rough at moment.

  18. Wow, I certainly will not be going there! Just read the post out to my wife, we have been looking at venues for the grandkids. Disgusting, hope you get some satisfaction from them.
  19. Not really, and I've just today received the EF 28-135 3.5/5.6 IS USM, that I've been wanting, and that wasn't cheap either...............
  20. Also found this What is a Canon L-series lens and why is it a big deal? Canon sell a number of lenses in a special series they refer to as L for “luxury.” These are their most expensive and highest-quality lenses, and are readily identifiable by the red stripe painted around the end of the barrel. L series lenses offer higher optical quality than their non-L equivalents, and have an important technical aspect in common. At least one element in every L lens is either made of fluorite crystal rather than glass, is a ground aspheric lens element (not a moulded/replicated aspheric lens as used in less expensive lenses) or is made from ultra-low dispersion glass. Most L series lenses are also sturdily built - many are encased in metal barrels and are weatherproofed - and most are very fast lenses for their focal lengths. Nearly all telephoto L series lenses are also off-white rather than black. These lenses are, therefore, marketed as professional camera lenses and are usually priced out of the range of most consumers. They can be used to take great photographs, but the cost, weight and size of these lenses are the tradeoffs. Of course, a lens doesn’t have to be an L series lens to take good pictures. Many EOS lenses offer excellent optical quality - they just don’t need and thus don’t have exotic fluorite lens elements and so on. Many of Canon’s prime lenses in the 35mm to 135mm range fit in this category - see below. And some recent EF-S lenses offer near-L image quality but lack the red ring and the tough build quality of contemporary L series lenses. Note also that the presence of a red ring around the end of a lens barrel only indicates an L series lens if it’s actually made by Canon. Some other makers happily paint red stripes around the end of their lenses too, but this in no way guarantees that the lens meets the quality standard of a Canon L lens.
  21. Well my friend this took some finding: L series lenses All L series lenses are easily identifiable by the red ring painted around the end of the barrel and the letter L at the end of their technical designations. Most L series lenses are heavy shiny black plastic or white-painted metal. Some newer lenses are weather-sealed and some (the earliest L series) are textured black plastic. The handful of early L series lenses with old-style barrels are not built to the same tough build quality of modern L lenses, though optically they’re fine. Most L series lenses are large and fast lenses and thus quite expensive. However in the past few years Canon have also released a few more affordable L series zooms. These lenses are optically slower f/4 lenses which are smaller, lighter and cheaper than their f/2.8 counterparts. 14mm 2.8 L USM 24mm 1.4L USM 16-35mm 2.8 L USM, Ø77 17-35mm 2.8 L USM, Ø77 17-40mm 4 L USM, Ø77 20-35mm 2.8 L, Ø72 24-70mm 2.8 L USM, Ø77 24-105mm 4 L IS USM, Ø77 28-70mm 2.8 L USM “Macro”, Ø77 28-80mm 2.8-4 L USM, Ø72 28-300mm 3.5-5.6L IS USM, Ø77 35mm 1.4 L USM, Ø72 35-350mm 3.5-5.6 L USM, Ø72 50mm 1 L USM, Ø72 50-200mm 3.5-4.5 L, Ø58 Old-style barrel, push-pull zoom 70-200mm 2.8 L USM, Ø77 70-200mm 2.8 L IS USM, Ø77 70-200mm 4 L USM, Ø67 80-200mm 2.8L Old-style barrel; not compatible with teleconverters 85mm 1.2 L USM II, Ø72 85mm 1.2 L USM, Ø72 100-300mm 5.6 L, Ø58 Old-style barrel, push-pull zoom 100-400mm 4.5-5.6 L IS USM, Ø77 Push-pull zoom 135mm 2 L USM, Ø72 180mm 3.5 Macro L USM, Ø72 True macro 200mm 1.8 L USM 200mm 2.8 L USM, Ø72 200mm 2.8 L II USM, Ø72 300mm 2.8 L USM 300mm 2.8 L IS USM 300mm 4 L USM, Ø77 300mm 4 L IS USM, Ø77 400mm 2.8 L USM 400mm 2.8 L II USM 400mm 2.8L L IS USM 400mm 5.6L USM 500mm 4 L IS USM 500mm 4.5 L USM 600mm 4 L USM 600mm 4 L USM II 1200mm 5.6L USM This was all I could find, all I can add is if its cheap enough and you don't want it can I have a look?
  22. Ah, but you don't look at the mantle piece when your poking the fire.
  23. Don't forget that after a 22 hour shift if you carry on double manning you only need an 8 hour break, and on and on for 6 days!! Been there done that, nearly killed me.
  24. Freelanders are cheap and rubbish, little or no room inside and with the exception of the V6 ALL grossly underpowered. Shogun has an import called Pajero and a big following. pocuk.co.uk Have you thought about a Nissan Terrano II, or an older Ford Maverick (same as Nissan TII) they use possibly the most reliable and longlived diesel engines ever. Same as black cabs, and look at the mileage they rack up, and easy and cheap parts. ............and Yes Maverick and Teranno seats fold flat. http://www.nissan4x4ownersclub.co.uk/index.php
  25. I managed to take over 100 pics of some model truck racing on a dull rainy day, with a 480mm lens. The best I can say about them was dull, uninspiring and boring, thats why I didn't enter. I deleted the lot and started again, and still got no where, but thats life! I've an idea for the bridge comp, its just finding the opourtunity now.
