I'm with Leon. Mullet have knocked the spots off any thing else I've ever caught. Not only do they fight extremely hard, but they also fight for ages. They also seem to have a pronounced second wind. Just when you think they're beaten and the fight's all over, it's only half way through!

Pound for pound I would say the Crucian carp.

Great little fighters, a pity they dont grow very big.

You cant count mullet as they are a sea fish.

If you want to argue that they spend time in fresh water SO DO TARPON and Tope also need a fresh water outlet but you would not count either of them would you?

It's gotta be mullet on coarse tackle. The initial run might not be as spectacular as a big bass, say, but they don't just give up after a couple of minutes like the bass do.

Tell me of another 5-6-7 lb fish that can take up to 40 minutes to land on 6 lb line.

I've never caught THAGAR btw..

My mate landed a brake drum while spinning under a bridge one day.

The not so nice thing about it was the bones and twisted wire attatched to it.

I too have caught a pillow case while spinning, the contents were a rock and some not very nice mush, kittens came to mind though.

Opps! It's 'proper' coarse fish is it?

Stick with Grayling, trotted worm on nice light gear in the middle of winter through gin clear water, they go balistic! Terrific fun!!
