PIGS IN TINS - GETTING A GRILLING

Dales

Recommended Posts

This post is not about waking up covered in bruises after getting a kicking in the back of a police van. Its about the gastronomical delights of session fishing and what you have for breakfast.

At the recent Wingham Fish In I bought along a few tins of Bacon Grill for Breakfast. Fried up I thought it was pretty good, not as good as Steve C's bacon sandwich on arrival but still not bad.

So I was wondering on what side of the fence other Anglers Net members stood on Bacon Grill is it a taste sensation that you look forward to eating or just mechanically reclaimed mush.

Thanks Budgie for the advice of slicing it nice and fine, top gastonomical tip.

So do you say YES or NO to BACON GRILL and if no what fills your hole in the morning. And please no rude answers to the filling of your hole :o

Stephen

Could be both. I ate some disgusting stuff - complete breakfast in a tin. God knows where the "meat" in it comes from, but I'd wager it isn't prime cuts of heritage breeds raised organically to the highest welfare standards. Stuff you just shouldn't eat. Freezing on the bank at dawn, however, it was lovely.

It's like packets of pork crackling. You know you shouldn't, but...

Its great - as bait.

I wouldn't eat it though as I had enough of that sort of thing when I was a kid and we couldn't afford better.

If I were on the bank for days and looking for a hot breakfast, it'd be bacon on the first day and a tin if beans on the second.

It's not the worst thing to come out of a tin though. There's just no excuse for tinned macaroni cheese

i love luncheon meat the cheaper the better

is it that fifties kids are strange? my culinary delights are simple no need for complicated many pot recipes,a plate of cabbage covered in gravy or a plate of chips covered in gravey or a hunk (ok a tin) of luncheon meat with brown sauce ,jelly and evaporated milk or peach slices and evaporated milk is the tops.

i spent a fortnight in france and every meal for me (once it dawned on the boss i wasnt on the same wavelenght food wise) was ham sandwiches and english mustard yyyyuuummy .french ham is thick and tasty the breads ok when you find it wider than an inch

i can see no rhyme or reason spending hours (or spending ££££'s) making a meal with 5 or 6 different things on a plate then bunging foreign gravy over it making it all taste the same

We tried those tinned burgers, one mouthful and they ended up in the bin, just dont know how perople can eat that Crap.

If you out for a couple of nights and not close enough to get takaways it is hard to find things to cook on a couple of gas rings that will fill you up, I have seen those ovens that you can sit on top of gas stoves and have been tempted, but thought its just someting else that you have to lugg around the lake to your swim.

just one more cast then I'am off home

We had a couple of those all day breakfasts, which Sue purchased from shop in Wigham Village for a quid a tin; not too bad actually, proper sausages rather than the frankfurter type and an omelette, which did not taste too bad considering it came out of a tin.

I don't do long sessions which would involve cooking on the bank so can't offer any advice as to what to eat, but Bacon Grill is just an advertising name for mrm (mechanically recovered meat), there is nothing else they can possibly do with this mush which would produce a profit for them so they put it in a tin with a fancy name and hope someone will buy it.

The only thing it has in common with Bacon is that it does mostly come from a pig.

There must be something better.

What's wrong with taking real bacon, in a cool bag, it should keep for a weekend without any problems.

I think I'd puke if i tried to eat bacon grill! not a bad bait though!

I don't night fish often, but when I do I take some frozen bacon/sausages in a coolbag, and have a proper bacon or sausage buttie for breakfast! Swap the plastic freeze blocks in the cool bag for frozen cartons of fruity drinks - ribeana/5-alive type ones and you'll have a nice chilled drink if the sun comes out as well :)

Guest Rabbit

You better not let old Vagabound hear you have been eating the stuff :o He gave me a right Grilling  when I admitted to eating the odd chunk that was meant for barbel and chub.

Actually I have fried up a slice or two when that's all we had in the cupboard, and not that bad at all, a fried egg on top and you have a real cheffy dish garnished with a little baked beans and it is fit for a Michelin Restaurant
