HDTV is comming.

At last it seems that plans are in hand to launch high definition TV in Europe, with Sky planning to start broadcasting in 2006.

 

With 5 times as much picture information on the screen as you get with a DVD or PAL broadcast signal, the picture on a HDTV set is like looking through a window. Predictably though, we're just about the last corner of the developded world to adopt the technology.

 

Having said that, Mr Murdoch needs to do something to keep his customers paying up. The difference between a basic Sky package and a package with movies is now £15.50 a month but for less than £13 a month, several compnies now offer unlimited DVD rental. You can have any three discs you want, free postage both ways and movies available well before satalite broadcasts.

 

Without the significant improvement in quality that HDTV offer, there is absolutly no reason to stick with Sky movies.

weve already got very good HDTV now its called a "monitor" ,unfortunatly theres nothing out there that uses it to its full extent.

Do we really need / want this ?

Do you look at your television and think " I can't watch this it's too grainy " ??

 

The trouble with technology is theres's no one in the loop asking "just because we can - does that mean we need too ? "

 

Anyway, I'm probably an old cynic as the only purpose the TV has for me is a cure for insomnia. Spent many an hour snoring through the dross.

with the amoungnt of repeats we get (and none of it in HD) if we did fork out for HDTV then it would be saddly underused ,remember all those years ago when colour came in yet we still get B&W films

the only thing thats changed to any extent is that your dad doesent spend half the film moving the aerial about (ask anyone that was born pre 65) and now we have decent sound

Guys - is it the weather that is causing all the negativity on AN this past week or two?

 

Here lately I really get the feeling that somebody could be offering to give you a top end rod & reel just for calling a telephone number and somebody would start griping about the cost of a phone call.

i've done a few jobs over the lasy year in HD and i think its a waste of time. its caught on in the states, but their (NTSC) pictures have lagged behind our (PAL) system for years, i really dont think HD offers any real benefits for 99.9% of the viewing public
