What Is The Best Reel Under £50

Hi, I fish for mainly carp, they range from 6lb to around 30lb. I am after a baitrunner reel but only have £50 to spend. I bought a fox stratos around 6 months ago and the baitrunner has jammed twice and i have had two replacments. So I am after something alittle more realiable, maybe another shimarno. Is there anyone that could help me decide on the best reel in this small price catagory.

I've had okuma intercepters for years. I use them for all my carp and pike fishing and no matter what stick they get, they keep on going.

It's hard to beat Shimano, I have had mine for more years then I can remember and they are still going fine.

Forgive me for dragging up an old topic.....

I've got the old Shimano 5010 GT Baitrunners, they've been brilliant and I can't fault them. Still heavily used to this day.

However I'm dissappointed in the Shimano reels I've bought since then and I'm reliably informed that Okuma actually made Shimano's gears for them up until they went out on their own - after I bought my 5010 GT's!

There's two people on this thread now who have said the recent Shimano's aren't what they were! Coincidence?

Same here Rob, I tried a few of the newer Shimano's and didn't like them at all. Ended up buying two more 5010's from Ebay instead.

I have 5010's and the later 5000 gte's and there both good. A friend has some of the shimano xtea's in 5000 and 6000 and they're spot on and I would say (appart from me not liking the colour) they're every bit as good as the older ones. Maybe a few small things like the line clip and the drag knob are better in my opinion on the later reels.

Without a doubt it's the Korum KXI Freespin I have the 60 size and I've yet to find a flaw, it looks and feels great, is very smooth, casts far, and even has a spring-loaded line safe line-clip on both of the aluminium spools which come with it! :D

Make that 3 - have a look at this old topic: http://www.anglersnet.co.uk/forums/Shimano...s-t1239903.html

The new Shimano Baitrunners aren't a patch on the old ones. I would always recommend a well looked after second hand old proper baitrunner, or failing that probably an Okuma.

You can get a top condition Aero GTE on ebay for less than £50.

I would also have to recommend the shimano. The 6000 ST RA's and the 6000 XTEA's are the ones i have (usually £40 and £120 respectively in most places). Despite the XTEA's costing around 3 times more than the ST RA they are almost identical give or take a few bearings. They feel much the same to fish with and the only real difference except bearings seems to be the finish, spool material and handle. I would recommend the ST RA's above anything else ive fished with for a fantastic budget reel. You really get a lot of quality for the price with them.
