Chevin's got the right idea - take a parachute!

Statistically the most dangerous parts of a flight are the takeoff and landing - jump out halfway and you reduce the danger by 50%? (Well that’s’ what my instructor said)

I've spent far too much time loafing about on aircraft and eventually learnt a relaxation technique that allows me to cat-nap just about anywhere:

Sit comfortably, close you eyes and concentrate on your toes – think only of your toes..

Once you have only ‘toes’ (unless you’re deficient in the leg department – Mr Spigot!) in your mind – think of them getting heavier and heavier as they ‘go to sleep’.

Once your toes ‘are asleep’ move onto your feet – ankles – legs etc, you will soon be ‘napping’ and although not asleep you will become very relaxed.

This technique has worked for loads of friends who have had trouble resting when on journeys or when the ankle biter’s get you stressed.

Enjoy your trip and get a window seat – the best bit about flying is looking down on the amazing world below.

Jealousy: totally irrational anger directed at people who happen to be richer, prettier, thinner, cleverer and more successful than you are.

have fun ,shout at the top of your voice "were all going to die" when the plane hits turbulence and drops a few hundred feet in a split second or "is that crack in the wing supposed to be there" and other mirth making remarks :)

Err Newt, I think you mean 2 grams daily (2000mg)

I take 1 gram daily, have done for over 25 years - and get far fewer colds/flu than most people. It was Linus Pauling who advocated this preventative - he lived until age 93 - his critics didn't.

DavyR:

Some good advice there, but unfortunately there's little or no evidence that vitamin c will help prevent infections:

I guess that it is what you believe and while it is something that it is impossible for believers to prove, it is easy for disbelievers to prove us wrong. For example if those taking the tablets get a bad cold after a flight, then obviously Vitamin C is of no benefit. However, I do know that a lot of the old cures and precautions do work despite what some scientists may say, so I ham happy to chew on something that tastes delicious in the hope that it keeps me free of the colds I used to get before I used to eat them.

It must be remembered that Vitamin C has been of great benefit to travellers for hundreds of years and while those benefits have been for different ailments it certainly doesn't do you any harm to take them today. From what I have experienced during the last 50 years, I am confident that within a few years some scientist will suddenly announce that vitamin C is a great help in warding off colds, just as my old Mum used to say - and her Mum before her!
