Hi Little Tinca wasn't sure if you were asking about the meaning of MHWS (Mean High Water Springs) and MLWS (Mean High Water Springs), or if you were just surprised at the proximity.

This should show it quite nicely: :D

Depends on if you Insist that a "sea" is by definition, salt water.

If so..about 1400 miles...

If not..about 20 miles Lake Michigan...which meets all the generaly considered criteria for being a sea, other then being salt water...

We all know that the Great Lakes are immense, but tell me do they have tides?

The problem isn't what people don't know, it's what they know that just ain't so.

Not really. From Here

quote:

According to the Canadian Hydrologic/Hydrographic Service, the Great Lakes experience tides from 1 to 4 cm, the strongest being on Lakes Superior and Erie. These tides are often masked out by meteorologically induced phenomena, such as a seiche (pronounced "sayshe"). When wind pushes down on one part of a lake, the water surface rises in another part, producing waves (most noticeable on Lake Erie because the lake is so shallow).

I'm about 90 miles from both the west and east coast.
