My first ever speeding ticket.

Got my first one today.

Apparently I was doing 65 in a 50 area.

Now I know I was doing 60 as I looked at my speedo when I saw the mobile speed camera van.

I was on a dual carrageway on the A491 Stourbridge road towards Bromsgrove at Belbroughton North.

I was keeping the same speed as the others so I think the takings for that day will be high.

I'm not going to dispute the intentened prosecution as I have no proof of my exact speed.

Just p1ssed off about getting the 3 points on my licence.

I drive safely and in nearly 30 years of driving I have not had any accidents.

Your may not be alone.

I drove back from the Highlands on Sunday. The weather was attrocious, gale force winds and torential rain, so I rarely got above 45mph all the way from Fort William to near Glasgow ( my vehicle is slow tall and I was carrying a roof box wife and three kids).

However as I left Crianlarich I put my foot down to get some momentum to climb the hill out of the village. As I reached the end of the 30mph zone and was doing 38/39mph. At that point I spotted the Camera Van hiding behind the speed limit sign. The speed limit starts/ends about 400yards outside the village so anyone late slowing down or early speeding up would get done.

What really Pd me off was that there was no police presence out on the windswept open moors where some people where driving like real idiots.

I will now wait for the notice.

How do you know you've been 'done' Dave...did they pull you over?...

I never even knew I'd been zapped, didn't see the mobile van or anything, then got a letter through the door two days later...guess what?..65 in a 50 zone :(

It's a shame I can't use my history recorded by my Sat/Nav. :(

I wish all cars could be fitted with 'black boxes' then there would be no arguments.

Here ya go how's this for an idea.

The 'brain' of most modern cars can be programmed so why not have a system where restricted speeds can be put in to the 'brain'(to restrict speed) and then we would have no need for speed cameras and no longer waste police time and then they can get on with stopping perverts killing children or other usefull duties.

Just buy yourself a diesel Escort Van. I'd have to give mine written notice to do 65 :D

I got zapped by a mobile one at Crosshands, S Wales. I was doing 48 through temporary roadworks which was a 40.

I sent off the form admitting I was the driver, then got the letter telling me to surrender my license and send off £60, only to get another letter 3 days later telling me no furter action is to be taken.

What a waste of time and money.

It's technically feasible and it would probably save many lives, but Jeremy Clarkson and Jeremy Clarkson wannabees wouldn't stand for it!

The idea of restricting cars speeds automatically is wrong because there are times when speed CAN get you out of an accident (I believe that is the stance of all motoring organisations). Putting a computer in control of a vehicle leads to a reduction in control by the driver and adds a completely unnecessary overcomplication which (if goes wrong) could lead to an accident itself.

I do have a speed camera detector (me and Sportsman have had this one out so lets avoid the rights/wrongs argument - you can search for that thread), which cost £70 from Woolies, seems to let me know where most fixed and mobile cameras are. Now I am not saying that gives you a license to speed (as it doesn't) but as I argued in that thread when driving normally and safely (such as you were doing following a line of fairly smoothly running traffic that were all slightly speeding), and the police are clearly trying to catch you out it does give you the upperhand.

no sympathy im afraid, speed limits are an absolute & if you break them then don't moan about the consequences. if you think a particular speed limit is unjust then complain to the highways department, this can make a difference, e.g. the A358 taunton to minehead road has now had all its silly 30 & 40 mph bits raised to 50 & 60 mph.

next time you want to break a speed limit, come round & ask me what it feels like to pick up a body that one second was alive & the next second was crushed by the front wheels & then whipped up round the back 6 wheels of a articulated lorry.

it was 25 years ago, but you will never forget the scream.
