One day the rod licence fees will go up by a substancial margin............who you gonna call?

One day your local river will be polluted and all fish life destroyed.........who you gonna call?

One day your local council will put signs up saying "boat moorings ,no fishing".......who you gonna call?

One day sea angling will be banned from piers and breakwaters "because of the mess anglers make".......who you gonna call?

One day ad nausea

One day the penny will drop for you........but it will be too late.

GhostBusters! well might get a better response than weve seen from the AT yet.

Seriously though the AT will never have the clout to achieve anything all the time it has so few members and so many detractors. And theyt aint going to get more members untill they climb down of their high horse and actually become a body that does indeed represent all anglers. In fact they are a problem as to win favour with the powers they are agreeing to some dodgy stuff and the same to try and get members. We need a single body to REPRESENT US and not just tell us what to do.

Trouble is that now I believe its to late for the AT to change, the damage having been done.Sadly I cant say that Im waiting expectantly for the next body to come along either as no doubt it will be the same story that weve seen before.

Rather than arguing over the proposals, new legislation, the AT,the EA etc etc maybe we should try and work out how a "united angling body" should be formed and structured? This to me always seems to be the problem as these groups just appear with out any input from the greater majority of anglers so are immediately regarded with suspicion.Yes of course some one has to start it off but surely a more diplomatic way of doing so and electing people to positions could be found?

Its a real tail wagging the dog situation at the moment in more ways than one.

And thats my "non indicative opinion"!

That sums my thoughts up perfectly, you will get what you deserve, unfortunately the rest of us will have to suffer, history shows angling is a complete walkover for any organisation with a bit of clout or power.

How do I feel about this? well I think it is fair to say, I am not in the least surprised by some of the attitudes shown here.

You still haven't commented on the fact that the majority of anglers are blissfully unaware of the proposed new legislation. Are you glad? Do you think that 'ordinary' anglers don't need to know?

As regards your questions above.

rod licence fees, if some of the comments on the AT forum are anything to go by the AT will be complicit in the price rise also expecting compulsory membership to the AT to be included!

Pollution, The EA, why,are the AT geared up for cleaning up pollution spills then?

Council bans: On a non navigable river? Oh yes water voles, ring a bell?

Sea angling. So what are the AT doing so far then? It's a current issue after all!

Ad nausea? Yep I'm sick of the AT already.

The penny has dropped. It's why I haven't joined. Try bashing your head against that wall a bit more, the penny might drop for you (if you really believe that the AT is an organisation that cares for allanglers).

As I see it the AT is probably fine for specialist groups such as yourself (match angler) but not suitable for the majority. You have made your views clear about the majority of anglers though....and for that matter, anybody who disagrees with your views. As the AT was set up by groups of 'specialist' anglers such as yourself it should come as no surprise that the normal (real?) angler is so distrusting of the AT!

That is it in a nutshell. The AT doesn't set out to represent anglers, it wishes to govern them.

Answer; no, I am not glad, this is precisely why anglers need to join the Angling Trust, the Trust will keep them informed as members, the EA will continue to run roughshod over anglers if they are not accountable to a powerful national angling body......get it now? .....I doubt it.

As regards your questions above.

Answer; deal with the fact's, not speculative posts made by it's members, the rod licence fee is compulsory, membership to the Angling Trust is optional......get it? .....I doubt it.

Pollution, The EA, why,are the AT geared up for cleaning up pollution spills then?

Answer; the AT/Fish Legal are geared up to bring about the prosecutions of polluters, they REGULARY win compensation for loss of amenities for it's member clubs, their record in the courts is OUTSTANDING, rarely losing a case in a long and glorious history, becoming a member of the Angling Trust will ensure this vital work continues for generations to come,.........get it?.....I doubt it.

Council bans: On a non navigable river? Oh yes water voles, ring a bell?

Answer; Waters are closed to angling for a wide variety of "reason's" up and down the country, many of these "reason's" are based on pure Anti-angling reason's....get it?.....I doubt it.

Sea angling. So what are the AT doing so far then? It's a current issue after all!

Answer; How many sea anglers are members of the Angling Trust? is it realistic to expect a service from an already under-funded organisation, without paying in to the concept?.....get it?....I doubt it.

Ad nausea? Yep I'm sick of the AT already.

Answer; I am utterly sick of Internet warriors like you , calling themselves anglers, and knocking the honest efforts of those that actually DO try to make a significant difference for the good of angling, your sort are a bloody disgrace.....get it?....I doubt it.

Answer: real angler? well your definition of a real angler and mine are worlds apart pal, ....get it?....I doubt it.

For the record, I respect anyone's right to abstain from joining the Angling Trust, but I do not respect the endless stream of guff spewing forth, from those that try to justify their decision to abstain.

I am a match angler .....not an anti-Christ!!!]

You still haven't responded to the point about the vast majority of anglers not knowing though. Is it right that a minority should have the right to make decisions whilst the vast majority are in the dark. This is the 21st century with unprecedented forms of communication not the 12th century. If the AT are so concerned about caring for all anglers why don't they make the effort to contact them?

If you regard genuine concerns such as people not being informed as "guff spewing forth" then perhaps your views are rightly considered as elitist and unfair.

Yes I agree, our definitions of "real" anglers probably are worlds apart.....unfortunately.

I have answered ALL of your questions, look again at my last post and where I have quoted you, your failure to see my replies , is proof positive, you have your head firmly up your own jacksie, .......get it?......I doubt it.

bob for someone who is on here as the self appointed "voice of the AT" your attitude and language is terrible and is doing the trust no favours. At a time when they should be doing everything they can to attract anglers to join, you seem to be on a one man crusade to do the opposite

I must admit I'm glad I live and fish in Scotland as I would give up fishing before I would pay money to a group like the AT

Davy, I asked Bob if he'd come back on here, and made a light hearted suggestion that he could be the AT rep. I don't agree with his ideas, or the way he sometimes puts them over, but at least he has come on here.

If you think that he will disuade any potential new members for AT, then you should have a look at the posts on there by Adrian Nichols, if anyone is going to drive anglers away then this guy will. Sadly, his attitude is typical of some of the others I've heard.

John.

Angling is more than just catching fish, if it wasn't it would just be called 'catching'......... John

Its just so sad that we dont seem to be able to get ourselves sorted with a pukka representing body for all.

Bob appears to be at odds with the majority on here (Yes I know it must be frustrating being "out numbered" Bob but you haven't been to fair with the likes of Worms who has at least tried to explain his objections in a reasonable way) but if we were to strip away all the crap then I'm sure that we would all want the same basic things.Yes there will be areas where we will have different opinions but surely these are the lesser issues that we could all compromise a bit on to enable us to be "united"?

Communication is the big tool we all need to work with to try and become "united" followed by a bit of give and take and tolerance for each others specific desires.

I would think that even if we were all "all round anglers" there would still be plenty of variation of opinion but surely the fact that we all fish is enough to give us enough common ground to build on?

And thats my "non indicative opinion"!
