What would you call a big fish?

It has got to be related also to the habitat. In a small stream anything that approaches the 1/2 lb mark gets a thumbs up. In the wide lower reaches of the Yare or the Trent then the same fish would dash your hopes.

Likewise the expectations for that stretch of water is important. If it is a known hotspot for slab bream then 5lb would not raise an eyebrow. But if the the local view is "there aint any fish in there boy" the same fish could be seen as a real reeeesult.

Nathan, a big fish has got nothing to do with what others say... it's got nothing to do with percentages of national/venue or any other records. SO don't listen to such utter tosh.

I'll tell you what a big fish is...

It's a fish that when you hook it you want to land it more than you want anything else in life at that very moment. It's a fish that you know will cause you to be upset if you lose it. And if you do, it will make you want to hurl your rod into the nearest reedbed.

But, most of all, it's a fish that will see you grinning from ear to ear when it finally slumps into the folds of your landing net and you know it's your's.

Hope you catch loads of them, Nathan.

I can't keep a secret Chesters1. Search by the shady looking 'regular' characters in your local tackle shop who will be smoking, farting and swearing whilst standing next to the hot drinks machine, usually next to the real tree stuff, and you'll spot it. Bradford Angler will point you in the right direction if you can't see the tins for the foliage.

Forget about records!!!!!!

To me a big fish is one which personally feels like a big 'un to me.

A big fish in one part of the country maybe average in another part.
