Lee - I like most game birds fresh. But Pheasant if hung for a couple of days isn't nearly as dry and just tastes better IMO.

Probably not true of pen raised birds but I've never tried any of them. Field birds though - give it a try. Upside-down by the feet for at least a day.

Nugg:

If lead is coming up through the food chain, never mind the fox's and badgers, what about the human population, is anyone suffering from lead poisoning?

Lots of humans get knocked down on the road, and it's all down to lead?

Hedgehogs and badgers I can understand, they eat worms, but how about otters? Their road deaths are increasing!

Do foxes get killed to the same extent in towns where traffic is slower?

How about deer?

I suggest it is more down to traffic speed than lead.

I expect the work was done on road killed foxes because they were available. They would probably find the same diet in foxes that are killed in all other ways.

Yet another way that the antis and their supporters are plugging away at the fringes.

I wonder who paid for the research!!

Lead may not be used over SSSIs or for shooting any wildfowl species. The non-toxic alternatives cost up to nearly £1.00 a cartridge.

Nicely put J H, I do like the reasoning that fox's are suffering from lead poisoning and "end up as road kills"

Talk about making the statistics fit the facts.

Ahem!! Craig I hate to point this out to you but....Game anglers frequently kill trout Salmon Sea trout and Grayling.

Some folk still kill pike and perch and zander all of which can be made to taste very nice and they get the fun of catching them.

These fish are an integral part of the wildlife scene to say nothing of the fish that sea anglers catch and kill.

Coarse anglers have only really had the current sporting ethic of catch and release since the second world war. Prior to that any of the coarse fish species, when caught, where at great risk of winding up on a plate.

In the eyes of at least a section of the antis those who practise catch and release are seen as being crueler than those who catch for the pot.

So your unspoken argument about the moral righteousness of coarse anglers with the current sporting ethic of catch and release holds no water.

You see wildlife doesn't just have big brown eyes and furry jackets it comes in all shapes and sizes from the humble Ameoba right through to Humans....Think about it.

Craig whislt I respect your right to disagree with me I would suggest that you need to give this matter some thought.

As for your suggestion that you would have us all join LACS that is pure rank thoughtlessnes!!!

That erstwhile organisation despite utterances to the contrary some years ago do have an agenda to ban angling once they have knocked off hunting!!!!

This position was stated recently by one of their spokespeople when it was looking likely that hunting was to be banned the last time this government got into trouble!

Can I suggest to you that you take the trouble to go through some of the previous threads on this and related subjects so that you can have the opportunity to learn something of the background to these issues.

That way you can have the opportunity to make considered comments on these matters.

There are some more thought provoking articles on these subjects to be found on some of the other angling websites like fishing magic read them and aquire some insight into the problems.

As I have said earlier on this thread please do not let blind bigotry be your guide or your reason for your actions.

The killing for fun argument always worries me, as many anglers, myself included, kill for fun, so we can have some fun pike fishing. We don't all get our dead baits from tackle shops or fishmongers.

Alan,

I agree with your sentiments, but wonder where you've seen the above stated. Their website claims that:

quote:

The League remains neutral on the subject of angling, and has no plans to introduce a campaign for its abolition.

All the best,
