The law on catching and eating fish

I would rate perch and eel as amongst the very best eating fish.

And don't forget grayling and zander, Steve.

John.

Angling is more than just catching fish, if it wasn't it would just be called 'catching'......... John

Haven't tried grayling, and the one time I ate zander the restaurant smothered it with a chanterelle and cream sauce, but yes, they are both very highly rated too.

I've known some people who rate grayling above trout, and others who don't rate them at all - don't know whether that is a matter of taste or of how they are cooked.

Only once tried cooking a lesser spotted dogfish, I've never seen so many worms. Put me off, I'm afraid. You get dogfish (huss) as rock salmon in some chippies, but I've never tried it.

Interesting that Steve. When I was a young man, "Rock salmon" was sold in every chippy..and very nice it was too :)

my old man loved it (a london thing?) i didnt like it the meat to me was rather sweet.

he also loved his winkles and shrimps and Saturday afternoon after he had bought them was his time us kids were not allowed to interrupt his snacking and football and wrestling.

the wrestling (or well practised sham wrestling) is back on and the likes of Haystacks Daddy and Mick Mcmanus back in their "glory" days

According to the FSA: "All species of Galeorhinus, All species of Mustelus, All species of Scyliorhinus, Galeus melastomus, Squalus acanthias (L.)" may be sold as "Dogfish or Flake or Huss or Rigg or Rock Salmon or Rock Eel"

So more or less anything small and sharky can be sold under a variety of names!
