Where did the water go?

Interesting.

ps Hydro-Electric schemes, popular with renewals fans, tend to slow the progress of water down to the sea, holding it back on terra-firma.

So, not only do they reduce carbon emissions (arguable), but reduce the rising of sea levels! ;)

How do you work that one out Leon?

The problem isn't what people don't know, it's what they know that just ain't so.

Surely once the dams are full, it is back to square one for the rivers?

Yes but there is now a greater quantity of water held on land.

(Maybe compensating somewhat for the melted mountain glaciers?)

It's obvious what's happening.

The population of the planet is increasing so there are more bodies with around 60% water in them. So obviously there is less water floating freely around the world. It's all trapped in bodies....innit?

John.

Angling is more than just catching fish, if it wasn't it would just be called 'catching'......... John

But John, the reduction of water entering the oceans is offset by the extra greenhouse effect (warming - extra melting of icecaps etc etc) generated by the extra methane and carbon dioxide produced by said bodies.

Far better to remove water from the global system by stockpiling tins of lager

I can agree with you about larger/water, I prefer the latter, it tastes better. I can't stand the other stuff, it's only served chilled to mask the taste. :yucky:

But you have hit on a good point. Not too many years ago, water was only available through the tap. Now there are billions of gallons of the stuff lying around in warehouses, shops, restaurants etc. It's no wonder the sea levels are falling.

Another point is that many 'fisheries' use to be filled with more water than fish, but it's the other way round now. That would seem to imply that there was more water freed into the system, but, there are now many more 'fisheries' about, so that would more than compensate for this.

I'm starting to confuse myself now so I'd better stop before the headaches begin.

Its all that water you are drinking. Take more whisky with it.

Another way to conserve water is to always go fishing with a group which includes at least two macho males. and choose to fish the other side of the country. Share a car (good conservation lore)

How does that conserve water ?

In the case of a car-load with two or more macho males, pit stops are governed, not by the weakest bladder, but by the strongest. Water can be removed from the global system for several hours at a time. :o
