How many carp anglers are there in the UK?

This morning I was trying to explain to an American friend how (and to the extent of which) carp angling has taken over the freshwater fishing scene here in the UK. He asked me how many I actually thought there was........I didn't have a clue! Anyone seen any figures?

And thats my "non indicative opinion"!

Would that be the number of carp puddle addicts, or those that fish "proper" carp lake for weeks on end. And do we include those English anglers that go abroad for monster carp. Not to mention those dubious people who secretly who catch them for the table :D:D

The two best times to go fishing are when it's raining and when it's not

There are 3 - they follow me everywhere and fish one either side of me and one opposite, and then all cast into my swim before getting hammered and ordering a pizza

And those who were seen dancing were thought to be insane by those who could not hear the music

Maybe everyone hear hates carp anglers but I don't.

They are putting large amounts of money into angling and that is good on many fronts. There money is supporting clubs and small tackle shops throughout the uk and with that keeping waters open to anglers and giving the whole angling sport a bigger say as regards impact on the economy.

Yes there are problem carp anglers as there are problem pike anglers. Most unpaying poachers that cause grief at club level at my club are pike anglers.

There are many carp anglers that are allrounders and exhibit a high level of skill for many species.

Yes there are many instant ones aswell.

Some of the p**s up sessions and terrible behavior we hear of are about as rare as fish eating foreigners but of course lets shoot ourselves in the foot first.

Many proper carp anglers help me a great deal in the waters I fish and likewise I can help with my eyes on the waters aswell. We have a respect that is good for both of us.
