How many carp anglers are there in the UK?

A highly significant number of carpers then? Also bear in mind the number of them who purchase 2 licences, and out of the total sold I would not be surprised if the figure was pretty close to 85% are carpers.

 

By the way, as of last January there is probably one less (although I still bought 2 licenses)

Me neither Den.Ive just been speaking to Paul at the EA and there is a possibility of another survey this year....if funding is available.I suggested that it would be interesting to know what anglers mainly fished for and if they could just see how many had brought two licenses it would give a better indication of the true total of "licensed" anglers in the country.

 

I find it some what surprising that stats like this are not known by them or available.

By not knowing (or not telling) the number of license holders is seen to be significantly higher..............what is the old saying? "there are lies, damned lies, and statistics"

Right! I'll say here and now that I am not a carp angler. A crap angler maybe, but carp are well down on my priorities. I am a great fan of Richard Walker, but boy did he open the Pandora's box when he started the carp specimen craze. It's not about catching fish, it's about acquiring tackle and landing the biggest specimen you can possibly afford to catch even if it is caught on a weekly basis. And don't get me started on the carp commercials with more rules than a working man's club and a density of stock more dense than the anglers who fish them.

 

As you may have gathered; a carp angler I am not. But if a carp comes along and nicks my bait destined for barbel or tench then so be it. So, of your 1,424,735 licences, there is one less carp angler, me!

Whats the definition of a Carp angler?

Is it somebody who is only targeting carp or only interested in catching carp?

I woud not call myself a carp angler even though I do fish for them on occasion and like last weekend catch them by accident IE not targeting them (when I say accident I accept that when presenting any bait there is a chance that any species could take the bait - thinking about it I did not catch it by accident as by presenting a single maggot any fish in the lake was a potential target!!! Thats it BEDTIME before I dig a deeper hole)

on sunday there was over 100 people fishing at the oaks in sessay i noticed them as i set off for home at about 2pm (did a night stint)
