How many carp anglers are there in the UK?

the club bailiffs note the fish being targeted when they get the permit numbers and the available "places" increased to facilitate the members wishes ,if a number of them said when asked koi perhaps some colourful catches could be had :D

pointless having most of your ponds full of silver fish if your members want something else! i suppose it makes sense

the pond i bailiff has no carp of note so always has empty swims and is rarely fished at night (although its great fun targeting the tench at night) but one bank isnt suitable for bivvies and i'm not sure the water is suitable for large carp but its great for our older members and dads and kids after crucians and roach

Well I tried contacting Paul Lidgett at the EA and heres the reply-

Hi,

Up to 18 February, we have sold 1,424,735 rod licences this year in England and Wales. Of these, 1,388,068 are for coarse and trout fishing. These are broken down as:

Disabled Concession 47,084

1 Day Licence 394,989

8 Day Licence 49,709

Full Licence 648,928

Junior Concession 108,246

Senior Concession 139,112

Total 1,388,068

We do not know how many licences issued to coarse-only anglers, nor how many fish (or fish only) for carp. However, from a survey we carried out in 2001, we know 86% of anglers go coarse fishing (25% for brown/rainbow trout, 7% for salmon and 5% for grayling). It also showed that carp are the most popular quarry among coarse anglers (55% of coarse anglers stated it was their species of choice, while 50% said it was the species they caught most often). Carp overtook roach since a similar survey in 1994. The survey report can be downloaded from our Publications Catalogues (http://publications.environment-agency.gov.uk/?lang=_e - enter “SW2-057-TR-E-E” in the product code).

So Im not realy any wiser! Seems strange that the last survey was back in 2001

And thats my "non indicative opinion"!

I have not seen any newer figures but have been looking for a few club tickets over the last few months over a wide area Essex, Kent, Sussex, Hertfordshire and even Buckinghamshire areas and have been absolutely stunned by how many waters at club level have been given over to Carp whether thats big specimen fishing or small "Carp Baggin" as I assume the clubs cater for the majority of there members then the figure for Carp anglers could be very high.

Other then rivers/canals most clubs seem to have portfolios made up of still water Carp venues and not much else :(

And that's before you even think about all the commercial Carp waters and syndicate carp waters.

Stephen

That's 11 years back. i think the % of carp anglers now you could well say 75%. Out of interest it would be interesting how many were taken to court without a Licence and what % do they think are fishing the season without one , its hard to valuate i know but what Would you say?

Extrapolating from the data you received, Budgie, and assuming a static percentage (I believe that it's gone up slightly myself), thats over 700,000 Carp Anglers, or more correctly, people who like to fish for Carp.

If only they all wanted some fancy new Fishouflage clothing, eh? ;)

This Years' Targets:- As many species by lure as possible. Preferably via Kayak. 15lb+ Pike on Lure...

Species Caught 2012- Pike, Perch.

Kayak Launches- Fresh-8 Salt- 0

Kayak Captures- 14 Pike, 1 Perch.

Yes I wouldn't be surprised by that Dave. When was the last time you met a fisherman who wasn't a carp angler?
