Thanks for that Snakey......

I remain a sceptic, but not a conspiracy theorist.

When I was first diagnosed diabetic I was prescribed statins. Wish I'd never heard of them, let alone taken them.

I am not a cnspiracy merchant..... but I'm not so naive as to not believe that money talks..... in all walks of life

It's cr@p!

These stories have been circulating and being rubbished for years.

It's amazing how many people "don't trust the food industry" without bothering to actually think about what they're suggesting. If companies like Coca Cola or Pepsi were ever found to be using poisonous sweeteners and knowingly suppressing or failing to declare details of their toxicity, they'd be bankrupt as soon as the evidence leaked out. They use it because they know it's safe.

The only real danger is to people with PKU but there is some indication that it might be associated with headaches in a few people at very high doses - there was a study done with people who had self identified as getting aspartame associated headaches and in a double blind test where they were given massive doses (30mg/Kg) or a placebo for a week, there was only a small increase in reported headaches in the Aspartame group.

Ok. Well, given the conditions I have, you'll forgive me if we agree to differ :)
Which conditions affect your ability to think for yourself? Why are you not equally skeptical of the author of the original piece?

The problem isn't what people don't know, it's what they know that just ain't so.

PKU

I was going to mention PKU PKU is a hereditary genetic disorder that interferes with the body's ability to metabolize phenylalanine, one of the matabolites of Aspartame. Life must be pretty grim as a PKU sufferer since all of the following are good sources of phenylalanine, an essential amino acid for most of us:

eggs, especialy egg white whites;

nuts and seeds, especially peanuts and sunflower seeds;

beef, pork, turkey, lamb and chicken;

Milk, half a pint of whole milk has 4 grammes of the stuff in it

anathing containing soy, soy is one of the richest sources at 4.5 grammes per 100 grammes.

The problem isn't what people don't know, it's what they know that just ain't so.

Do you beleive in all the other crap that Wellthychoices churn out too?

Why do you doubt my credentials but swallow the claptrap published by Geoff Goldie?

The idea that Apartame is an ant poison is just a load of old rubbish. Go and read the article about it on Snopes. Even if it were true Aspatrame were toxic to ants, this would not necessarily mean that it was toxic in humans.

Have you ever taken aspirin or paracetamol?

Aspirine is toxic to cats. It can cause multiple organ failure and birth defects. In a similar vein 250mg of paracetamol will probably cause liver failure and death in cats.

A human would have to consume more than 24 liters of a beverage containing Aspartame in one sitting before there was any risk to health, but the consuming 24 liters of Sportsman's fizzy mineral water in one sitting, or just plain tap water for that matter would also result in death.

Yup the old ant poison one is on Snopes here as well.

Its funny how people think its just the big corporations out to make money look at the author of "Sweet Poison" Dr. Janet Starr Hull ,what does she happen to sell via her website - special aspartme detoxification kits and other similar "alternative health" products. Has she therefore got an alterior motive for slating aspartme ? you decide.

She also pushes Hair anaylsis testing (a snip at $187.00 a time) other views on this test can be seen here and here

I'm just preferring to stay as I am. I gave up all artificial sweeteners.

I am an insulin dependent diabetic

I have had a stroke and heart attack

I am unable to walk far, although I can and do cycle, but most days present some form of challenge or another.

Oh and I have retinal seperation in both eyes. For this there is a 50/50 chance of a cure.
