I RETURNED IT TO GO-OUTDOORS WHERE THE ORDERED ME A NEW ONE

ONE WEEK LATER, I RECIEVED THE NEW REEL AND FIRST TIME I USED THAT ONE IT JAMMED UP

THE THING IS THESE REELS COST £62 QUID

I had problems with an Abu 706 recently too from a seller on ebay. I just returned it and am waiting to find a decent priced 506 instead. The 706 kept trapping my line somehow and the bell housing didnt spin true. It was brand new too.

All,

Wonder why Abu Garcia doesn't sell their "good" Abumatic reels in the UK? For $65 (full retail) you can buy the 1276SLI. I've found it to be quite the equal to my Zebco Omega reels. I guess it is because they are "setup" for a bait casting rod?

I too have heard "trash talk" about the quality of Abu closed face UK reels and I am WAY across the pond.

Yep. And also, I think that style of reel (with the line feed through a small hole in the front) probably has too much friction when casting for the sort of very light float fishing that the Brits use closed face reels for.

I had a 706 and didn't like it

I have an Abu 501 and a couple of Dam CTEs

The Dams beat the ABU in every respect.

Much better made and they have a drag that works.
