Your Favourite Fish.....

As many of you will kmow for me it's perch. Some of the things I like about them is that they can be found in almost all types of waters and can be caught on almost any method. Also, whereas small perch can be almost suicidal, specimen stripies are quite a challenge. This is probably why really big perch don't figure on many specimen hunters lists of personal bests.

However, like Andy, I also enjoy whatever I'm after at the time. Right now it's big gravel pit bream that, together with eels, many specialists reckon are the hardest coarse fish to catch to specimen size.

I'd add that it's not specimens that interest me as such, but difficult fish. I like a challenge - one that gets my ageing brain working! Specimen fish are often more difficult to catch, and that of course is one reason why they get big!

my fave would have to be the stickleback.

This under valued fish never gets a mention, left out in the cold with his mate the bullhead.

I feel sorry for these fish, the minnow is far more popular in the watery playground, and that bighead the gudgeon is always getting the attention. The stickleback always used to happily oblige to a bent pin, green dayglow kids fishing net or stretched stocking over a coathanger.

from now on i will devote myself to the pusuit of the 1lb stickleback.

:D
