What's BT up to?

If you're on the edge of an exchanges area the site may say yes, but when they investigate your specific house it may be too far.

A friend of mine was told after a line test by BT that, although his exchange had been converted, he was on the extreme limit for cable length so 'might' have problems. It was then up to him to decide whether or not to connect. I don't think he bothered.

WHAT WE?RE DOING

We?re introducing a monthly** usage quota of 120 hours? internet access during flat rate access periods (i.e. during weekends and between 6.00pm and 8.00am weekdays). We?re also removing the 12 hours in one day restriction. You may, of course, use your 'daytime dialler' as much as you want.

120hrs  i shall see what the ombudsman says (is there one)

i cannot believe ofsted has not e`mail address  here it is complain away advice@oftel.gov.uk

please send your e`mails of complaint as i have ,i am sure the more that mail the more attention w`el get

Strange that your email from bt is worded different to mine Chesters, seems that this is being done on a selective basis otherwise all the messages would be the same (?)

To be honest, when I first posted re the reduction in time, I was hoping for some feedback. I do not doubt that the PC mags will be flooded with complaints, but I don't buy any anymore, (make you spend your money).

Either way I have had it with BT, I have been thinking Broadband for a while now and had actually made some enquiries, the only thing that had stopped me was the setup cost.

Tiscali's costs are lower for the Modem, lower for setup (free for the 512kbps) and lower per month (£27.00),

Alternatively the 256kbps is £50 setup and only £19.99 per month.

So as I said earlier, I will give up the second BT line, and cancel my openworld as well and BT will lose my £27.00 a month.(so there!!)

I will send complaint to Ofsted, thanks for the address,

I use AOL, £15.99 a month unlimited, and as I use it more than an hour a day, it pays for me to use this sort of service. We got cable, so broad band isnt a problem, just the price, im hoping as with most things it will eventually come down in price. I did see NTL offering broadband for £15 a month in one of the newspapers but wanted a BT line and i've got telewest. Perhaps others could post their providers and prices that they no of then we can all get the best deals. :D

Just one small point. It's Oftel, as the second reference in chester's post said. Ofsted is the schools' inspectorate. As a teacher Peggy knows all about them! Definitely not to be confused with Oftel!

BT Broadband is available in my area.....

on my local exchange......

but I am more than 4 km from it so I cant have it !!!! (That is info from BT and tested from their website)

However, I am with freeserve anytime at the moment, and they say .............

Yes no problem ..Broadband sir.. of course pay your money and we will set you up....... hmmmmm still using the BT line tho, surely they cant know something that BT dont?????

The maximum line length is 3km, over this distance the "loss" is to great to make an appreciable distance to connection speeds...

"WHY WE'RE DOING THIS

There are some customers who keep their computers connected to the internet for long periods of time."

If BT are calling the still calling the service Anytime I reckon that any time now they'll be a complaint to the Advertising Standards Authority!
