We know of marker floats being taken by pike and landed so i was thinking what bizarre objects or baits have you caught a fish on intentionally or not?

I caught a fish using a sheep once unintentionally but true ( no joke)....LOL

nearly caught a pike on a banana skin once, kept following and nipping at it, but never actually took the hook into it's mouth. Must have followed and nipped at it over a dozen times, fascinating to watch

Ivory soap (which is actually a good bait for channel catfish at times)

piece of foil from a chewing gum wrapper

cigaret filter

The obvious dessert spoon yarns back.

I want to know if any of you old timers actually really did catch carp on potatoes?

I once caught a chub on ledgered worm.

You might not think that unusual until I tell you that it was hooked in the lip and that it had been dead for at least a week when I hooked it.

I've also hooked an8lb plus chub on a snail (the smaller of the pair) but lost it at my hand.

Yep, carp on potatoes ... and pike on carrots! :clap2: ... seriously - by intention too! Peeled and then cut at an angle, they can be mounted with an appropriate hooked trace and fished as a lure, jerk-bait style ... think you can still find the vids on Youtube if you dig about.

Jelly Tots and marshmallows (for carp), soap (for some brute I've forgotten the name of, in Gambia), and the ubiquitous 'bare hook' too :-)

I once saw a guy catch a perch on a spearmint Pacer sweet. As a lad, I caught perch on eyeballs taken from other perch.

Ken L,

The worm or the chub?

Dave H,

You don't want to know the bizarre objects and methods used by subsistance fishermen.

Hand fishing (noodling) is pretty exhilarating the first time you try it. "Grabbing" requires the skill of a ninja. The "bait" is a red or white handkerchief.

I have never "klonked" a fish with an artifical klonk but it is certainly on my bucket list. Is anybody a "klonker"?
