Lee, at the risk of name-dropping....

Chris Tarrant is an angler (and a good one, too by the way). If he sat in your butcher's for four hours, 99 per cent of customers would recognise him. Therefore he is without doubt the greatest angler ever.

Mind you, if you aksed Chris Tarrant who the greatest-ever angler was, he'd probably want to phone a friend.

Anyway, Lee...

What's Bob doing there with you? I told him to be here by midnight if he wants me to introduce him to the PM tomorrow.

PS: Did I ever tell you about the day I went fishing with Isaac Walton?

Dear Fenboy,

If Chris sat in our butchers shop, he'd eat all the pies. Would I be correct in possibly assuming you know Chris? Personally of course.

As for him phoning an angling friend? I'm not allowed to mention the barbel God's name out of context as I will be hung up by my thumbs again. Oh go on then!! Might be Steve Pope. Even I know him. He once talked to me twice. I swooned both times so much the soles of my feet blushed.

Regards,

Lee.

Peter, nobody is older you than you. The Pope told me that you were born in the bullrushes beside Oulton Broad and regularly parted the waters on the River Waveney so that you could walk to your swim on the opposite bank.

Lee, thanks for the coconut. It reminds me of the one that nearly dropped on my head while I was drinking cocktails with the late Princess Margaret on Mustique.

Hi, Now back to the starter topic of Matt or JW, I think JW get's the vote from me, because of all he has done over a period of time.

Matt is the future and also doing a great job, I like both of them, different styles.

I've been an angler on & off for 35yrs, so I've seen a bit.

I think we are all straying from the subject slightly. Lets recap a bit.

No.1 all time - has to be Dick Walker

No 1 at present - jury's out. It would appear to be either Matt Hayes or John Wilson.

I think we have to remember that while there are a number of anglers of note, (Bob Nudd etc), remember we are talking ALL ROUND angling, not specialising in Match Fishing, Carp Fishing, Pike fishing etc.

I'm not very sure who is the greated TV angler (presenter)....but having met Matt Hayes at the P/Boro fishing fest he really is a very nice genuine bloke just as he apperas on TV. He found the time even though he was being Tanoyed (sp) to go and appear before the crowd because Jan Porter had done his bit to have his photo taken with the grankids no rush no posing very friendly and chatty... great bloke. I felt he was an instant mate if know what I mean. Mind you I can't afford to go fishing with him costs loads. He loves Chubb fishing that agrees with me very well to.

I know some of these (media orientated)people have to put on an act to keep their street cred but he was not that way at all.

I watch nearly all the fishing progs (except Aussie) on the TV and also enjoy John Wilsons Progs as well, but most of them seem to have time or editing faults as pointed out by by the float differences on what he cast out and what he actualy caught on. It really does not matter because the program is entertaining thats all I want.

For me the fisherman at the moment and recent past has to be the quite man Bob Nudd.

It takes longer for the river to get to the sea than it does for a man to make an error.

I've known Matt for many years, way before he was famous, and even then he stood out as a fine angler. With Matt, what you see is what you get. A very likeable bloke.

I've met Bob Nudd a few times, both in the tackle trade and when he's fished at my lakes at Wingham. He's a real gentleman and a great ambassadeur for angling.

John Wilson I've met only once, on a Chub Study Group fish-in on a badly flooded River Wensum. Despite not being a CSG member, he gave up his valuable time and local knowledge to help us catch in almost impossible conditions.

In fact, the vast majority of the "stars" are very approachable and, other than being famous, are just like you and me.

A good example here is fishing fanatic, Chris Tarrant. A true megastar, but when he's amongst anglers he's just one of the lads.
