....and at a lower price it may end up as another Rusty pin. Hope you are well Rusty, just checking your blog.

Hello all by the way, I've not been here for a while. Work and family commitments mean I've no time for this sort of thing.

Anybody paying that sort of money for a centerpin wants sectioning!

Hello Mike, good to see that you're still with us. The blog has taken a back seat for a while, this has been the worst season I can remember since starting to fish the Kennet. I have zero confidence at the moment and writing about blank after blank doesn't really appeal. I'm still fishing (just about), yesterday I went to a venue which should have produced chub and it did for an angler on the opposite bank but not a bite for me. Might try a CSAS exchange ticket this weekend for a change of scenery.

It's never a 'six', let's put it back

Hey up, here's another bespoke jobby...with two different spools !

I’m sure there was somebody on this forum who’d ordered a Lythe with a spare spool but was perhaps regretting not simply ordering two reels, I can’t remember who it was though. A 1915 would have been £475 when he ordered it and the spool about £250 (from memory) so it needs to get above £725 to break even.

The seller might still make a profit but I can’t help thinking that the spare spool isn’t adding any value, if I were bidding I’d regard it as just one reel. Unlike a fixed spool reel where the spares are relatively cheap who bothers to change spools on a centrepin if they wan't to use a different line? I bet most people just bung on a different centrepin or reload the one they have.

I wouldn't buy a bespoke reel with a spare spool, especially a spool off another model. I do know Chris Lythe promotes the idea as it saves you money but personally i'd prefer to have two different reels.

I did once buy two brand new 2040 Purist spools off ebay though, as when the seller said they'd do me a buy it now of £50 for the pair I just couldn't refuse. I kept one for myself and give the other to little Steve...neither of us have used 'em though !

The Kennet burst it's banks at Hambridge - best keep away for a while. I've been restricted to the black water, Loddon and whitewater for my brief sessions but haven't been out since September until two weeks ago - I blanked too.

If the river drops we can go to the kennet again, legering bread for chub. Great. However, I am expecting a baby in March - hoping it will be late so I can get the end of the season in!

I went to hambridge between Christmas and new year and it had burst it's banks, hate to think what it's like now! There's a tree down in bellwood and the lambourn has burst it's banks at Shaw
