From what I know they are only as good as the angler on the other end.

How tall a angler is matters a lot when it comes to casting as does strength and technique.

i have a 14ft beachcaster and unfortunatly cannot master the brute (its an old? Silstar MXG one) not sure if its rung for fixed spool but it casts to only 75% of my 12ft one (a daiwa longbeam) i think there must be a different techniche to keeping the power all the way through the cast but it illudes me :(

the 14footer is brilliantly made but looks unfortunatly dont count in its case ,i cannot find anything about re the www

beachcasters has any1 got 1 and are they any better than say 12 or 13 feet 1,s for casting with only was thinking of getting a 16ft diawa commoran beach caster

Pal,

have to agree 100% with Sam, the rod length makes no difference if your technique is no good. The modern idea of ever increasing lengths for surf rods is basically a marketing ploy by the big boys. They have to have something new each season to keep them happy. If you are a mediocre caster ( like me) you will get no further on a 15-16ft rod than you will on a 12ft (or nothing appreciable).

If you want to master the longer rods, you need a reel very low position and master a back cast, otherwise its as good as a handbrake on a horse.

To qualify my statement about marketong ploys by the big boys. Take Penn International reels. Apaet from modern drag materials they are very little different to 40 years ago, slightly better metals, odd improve, ment to a reel seat but basically the same reel. Shimano on the other hand sell you one for £300 now, three months down the line reduce it to £120 and then bring out the super dooper turbo charged version as " this years model". Load of piff!. I am about to put my head in a noose

I switched to continental styled rods this year the first was a cheapy and I have now upgraded to one of the super doopers

I am not a top of the range caster by any means when it comes to distance, BUT my new rods have given me some credibility.

Not many out distance me now and the effort they put into it is a lot greater than mine.

The only draw backs I have seen to date are fishing on the slope of a steep bank and threading up all those extra rings. :)

The new Shakespear and Zeuz Z500 reel were put to the test today on the field and my knees are still knocking, from where I was stood I was 130m from the hedge, my first some what shakey first attempt found me walking up the field to recover my lead from the other side of the hedge.

I rest my case and my head is on the block :D:D:D

I fish, I catches a few, I lose a few, BUT I enjoys. Anglers Trust PM

:D The England team and many others used the 5mtr, 16.5 ft Shakespeare in the World Shore Champs at Weymouth last year and they swear that they give you extra distance, an off the ground cast goes further than a pendulum cast, or so they say.

These rod are fine for tiddler catching like the med anglers but crap for serious british all round angling and the easy way out of learning a competent casting style, just another money making racket

:D Not the tiddler catching rod you think, it's very pokey and of an impressive quality, have a look at one, you may be surprised.

I reckon it depends on the casters style and technique. What suits one, won't suit another.

Think about some of the best casters that we've seen, and then look at how they cast and what they use. Neil Mackellow was a big bloke who had a slow style. Paul Kerry had a very fast casting action and used, I believe, a shorter rod than Neil. A shorter rod is easier to move fast.

I use a 12ft Beachcaster because it suits my style. I have tried longer rods but they feel all wrong to me. My mate Terry Edmonds can cast with anything. He's currently helping to develop carp rods for distance casting and recently cast 218 yards using a carp rod and an overhead brighton style cast! Now that is going some!
