The problem isn't what people don't know, it's what they know that just ain't so.

British Values ?

Cricket and steam engines.

Angling ? That's a universal value.

Cricket and steam engines.

Shouldn't that be Indian values? Better at cricket and they still have steam engines ;)

Has anybody mentioned the good old British pint yet? (and I'm not talking about Eurofizz :sun: )

Eating wild caught fish is good for my health, reduces food miles and keeps me fit trying to catch them........it's my choice to do it, not yours to stop me!

Indian values include curry.

A happy result is that now both nations have curry, cricket and (preserved) steam engines.

Tut tut, Cory, implying that people lack 'class' because of their preferred choice of food?

I can never understand it, (maybe I lack class). There are some foods I like, and some I don't, and others I just don't fancy eating.

It's the same with wine, some I like, some I don't, even when some apparent 'wine expert' has shared an 'excellent vintage', and been amazed when I said I didn't like it, an 'uneducated palate' was the term used.

Nick mentioned " the good old British pint", and even opinions on that differ with location, and personal taste.

No, I'll stick to my earlier opinion on "British values", both morally, and gastronomic, there aren't any national ones. The people of this country are too diverse, and any attempt to 'pigeon hole' them into a set of national 'values', especially for political reasons, is set to fail.

Angling is more than just catching fish, if it wasn't it would just be called 'catching'......... John

John - British culture would be a better word than values. And it does exist, even if it is quite promiscuous when it comes to assimilating good things from elsewhere. And distinctive regional and local cultures exist within it. And that's good, I think.
