I've just started restoring a Modern Arms Co. IGFA 80lb class boat rod with a full set of AFTCO roller guides, Should be good fo some heavy congering matched with a Policansky 4B reel!,

I'll have almost a full set then, an Allcock's Climax split cane rod and Commodore 'pin, the "MARCO" and polly and my modern carbon Ugly stik 50-80 fod with my homemade multi, I'll be able to do heavy sea fishing wearing a variety of hats and clothing styles! ;-)

I used to sweep up the floors and machinery at modern arms for a small sum or other ,a chap a few doors away worked there ,cant remember exactly when ,i was 9or 10 at the time .bromley had a cane rod maker as well i remember getting a tip of my shelford put back on ,free i think kids were looked after a bit better then ,tears probably helped!

The only marco rod i can remember owning was some solid glass pike rod i used as a pier rod aswell

Before i could afford ready made decent glass rods i used to make my own ,i used to send jb walkers a bit a week a d when i had sent enough a kit appeared ,to young to get credit even then

I had a Milbro solid glass spinning rod, about 7ft long with screw reel fitting. Great for the job with a bit of backbone. Also used a 13ft Shakespeare Strike hollow glass match rod which handles tench and carp up to 10 lbs.

The two best times to go fishing are when it's raining and when it's not

I had one of those spinning rods!

Eating wild caught fish is good for my health, reduces food miles and keeps me fit trying to catch them........it's my choice to do it, not yours to stop me!

It's the Hardy I was thinking of - but it's a specific application which uses some of the properties of glass rods to their advantage. I don't think there are mainstream coarse rods which need those same properties.

I once had a pike rod (Shakespeare, I think) which was carbon at the bottom and glass at the top. It was great for deadbaiting as you had the oomph further down to cast big baits and set hooks plus a forgiving tip to prevent baits being cast off and to absorb head shakes. (Someone nicked it :( )

And those who were seen dancing were thought to be insane by those who could not hear the music

Anderroo,

The Shakespeare Tiger Rod is like that. Fiberglass outer with a carbon core. I believe the carbon core ends 2/3rds (?) toward the tip. The problem with Tiger Rod is that I believe(?) they are all one piece.
