Right guys if you are traveling from around london you can get flights from london gatwick or luton for about £35 return to inverness. Then you might be able to hitch rides or hire a car/van and drive from there. Easyjet are quite good as they give you 10kls sporting baggage allowance. We use them quitelot for forays south.

I'm sure that we could arrange sufficient transport for 6 to 8 people from the south in the various cars that are available.

Just thinking about dates times etc how about:

travel to Scrabster on the Saturday

fish from Scrabster on the Sunday

early ferry Monday from Scrabster to Kirkwall

Afternoon ferry from kirkwall to Stronsay

Fish Monday evening through to friday evening

travel back to Scrabster saturday

Travel back to all points south Sunday

Obviously there would be an option to just do half the week for anyone that wanted to.

Just an opening thought - anyone any other ideas / suggestions?

The idea that he southerners fly is great..ppl from further north meet em at the air port and provide onward transport.

This is far too early for me to commit but in theory i am up for it ....i live near scots corner and can put a few people up over night and provide onward transport...either fill the van with gear and 2 others or the car with 4 ppl ...split the fuel costs. An idea is to put all gear in van and have 1 or 2 extra cars from here as i can park 4 or 5 cars here for the duration.

Still too early for me to arrange details tbh.But in theory I am up for it :)

how far in advance did you look simon, with easyjet the further ahead you book the cheaper it is. The time of the flight can also make a difference.

just checked and for March next year, saturday from gatwick you can get a fare of £14.99 and from Inverness on the sunday £13.49, plus a total of £16.50 taxes, so £44.98 total cost of flights. Not bad.

I`ve just put the trip to Victoria.

I complained about the long trip etc. So the bitch insisted that I go! :D:D

"But Paul" she said, "You`ll almost be in the land of the midnight sun. Think of all the hours fishing you`ll get!"

I guess that makes me a definite.

Just need folk to decide on the date, length of trip etc. But I`m up for a few days in Scrabster either end. :)

We don`t use J`s anymore!!

I'd probably be up for it if the dates are right. I'd probably combine it with a climbing trip so might be able to offer at least a one way lift from Milton Keynes - or anywhere on route.
