I was 29 and you have to be about my age to have worked ubder the last labour govenment.

I never knew when i would next get a full weeks pay, if was not on strike then it was one of the suppliers.

It was absolute mayhem, and the only reason they got in again is because there are so manyvoters younger than me who could not know any better.

Come to think of it, everybody is younger than me :(

Ohh nothing like patronising the young is there Brian! That is annoying really, since I think my two previous posts have both made reasonably valid points, and shooting them down because I have no personal recollection of the events isn't really fair.

So Labour did a good job did they? The reality of it is Labour of old appealed to the masses 'the party of the people' (more commie sounding propaganda). The thing is you simply cannot give more back to people without taking it off someone else and that's where the problems lie in Socialist policies. Unions had too much control (not really something disputable that), and they needing quashing.

Now, I also don't know 'from experience' of the 80's being only a lad, but what I do know is labour inherited a very good economy, which was built through 'tough' decision making. Yes, the Cons p1ssed of dockers, coal miners, unions - in fact a great deal of the population, but were (in the main) necessary evils. Labour have then come in and tried to make a 'super welfare state' but in order to do that they have to skim money off us all in order to hand it back.

Why else do you think we pay some of the highest fuel prices in the world, massive council tax hikes, rise in employment costs (any employers on here will know Labour have passed a shedload of tax rises such as employers NI onto businesses).

IF I had to guess, which is all we can do, the Conservatives would run the economy 'more conservatively'. Yes, people at the bottom would probably be worse off, but then they wouldn't starve either. I am not saying make people go hungry, but I'll be buggered if I have to pay for someone on the dole to have bloody sky tv and a new car sat in their driveway and we all know it simply does happen.

If another party provided any kind of opposition other than the cons I'd be fully prepared to consider it BUT we are a 2 party nation (regardless of what the others really want you to believe).

I think my post was missread or interpretated.

I was not knocking anybody for their age, but they could not have had the misfortune to have had to try to earn a living under the last labour government.

And those that were old enough to vote became dissilusioned with the conservative one.

I am not knocking anyone for their beleifs just really stating mine, i am in fact in complete ageement with you.

Actually thats where I thought it's strength lies. To fairly distribute wealth accross society and end poverty is a strength not a weakness. Without social and economic equality there will always be turmoil.

P1ssed of? The Pit closures implemented by the tories in the 80's can hardly be described as that, to destroy people way of life and their communities was slightly more than p1ssing them off. :(

Is this what you really want, people poorer than yourself to having even less to live on?

And as for your comment that people on benefits can afford new cars, well those that can are either selling drugs or working whilst claiming.

What did the tories give us, they gave us the "I'm alright jack" society. As long as I've got cheap fuel for my 4x4 the worlds rosey. They sold off our heavy industry, they sold off all the desirable council housing with their "right to buy", which has now left many areas with no decent affordable housing. They just about destroyed the economy. They instilled a sense of greed and selfishness in us that we did not have previously.

Many still wonder what happend to the sense of community in the Britain......well the Tories happened to it thats what.

Porky Prescott stripped of his responsibilities but still DPM, no reduction in salary, keeps all his houses. Methinks two sh*gs still carries a lot of weight in the Labour party..pun intended.

Even Prezza must be embarrassed, being ousted by Ruth Kelly :lol:

Charles (got offered a better job but I didn't want it') Clarke, yet another example of when the boss supports you in your time of trouble YOU'RE IN THE MIRE! Graceless as ever after being sacked.

Rottweiller Reid in the home office, he might just be tough enough for the job IF the Labour party really does want to sort out the countrys immigration problems.

How did Hewitt keep her job???? :wallbash:

Scopex,

You have my full sympathies if you or your family suffered through the pit closures, but world economics meant that sooner or later it was always going to happen, one of the parties was going to have to bite the bullet. She could have dealt with it showing a lot more sensitivity & with a lot more help for those communities affected, but it was inevitable. :(

1979 Britain was economically dead in the water, sorry mate, a Labour government.

Greed & selfishness tend to grow when economies boom & more money becomes available to greater amounts of people. Community spirit thrives where large areas of the population struggle together. I truly wish this wasn't so, & I live in hope for someone to come up with a society plan that allows widespread wealth & strong community spirit. Perhaps our present day ridicule of religeous beliefs & the governments lack of support for the traditional family unit & values, play a part in present day surge of selfishness. I haven't noticed an increase in community spirit over the last 10 years of a Labour government.

Peter.

Forget Labour, Conservative, BNP....whoever, instead look at the state of our country. We have an Health system which is falling to bits due to paperwork-burocracy, we have a school system which is falling to bits due to paperwork and those trying to further their education are leaving what is still school with c £30K debt before they even think about a job, home or family. We have an employment system which discriminates against native born English, we have PC rules so bad they are a total joke, there are moves to add black to the Union Flag to represent our multicultural makeup. We have a legal system which is a total joke, let the punishment fit the crime, don't make me laugh. We have a taxation system which invades just about everything we do and what do we see for all those pounds, a completely incompetant civil service bogged down by paperwork, grossly overstaffed and completely missing the primary aim of any civil service. We have a policy on immigrtion which is a total shambles. In fact if anyof our present politicians had to make their way in industry they would not last an hour, unless they were from an ehnic minority or their sexuality was questionable, in which case it would take 12 monts and 3 tribunals together with a big compensation cheque to sack them

The first politician to be honourable, to address himself to rectify the sorry state of this third world country we call home, to be honest, admit his mistakes and answer a question with an answer remotely connected to that question will get my vote. It has never hapened in the 32 years I have been elidgible to vote but I do live in hope.

Rant over

To be fair, though, this is just a stupid idea from one individual that has had media coverage purely because it's so outrageous. There's no serious risk that the flag is going to change.
