Actually, Kleinboet, it was Senator Joseph McCarthy, but you're right about him ruining many careers. Oddly enough, he also made people's careers as well. The likes of Burl Ives testified and pointed the finger at a lot of musicians he accused of 'unAmerican activities', btu these pretty much unheard of people - Pete and Peggy Seeger amongst them, found the fame and fortune over here which had pretty much eluded them in America.

Chesters, that is exactly the point I am trying to make. EVERYONE suffered (a lot innocently) because of his thoughts. We today are made to suffer over P.C. (Baa, Baa Rainbow sheep?). When are people going to stop overreacting? (I suppose the PC brigade will now say when every body does EXACTLY what these PC peckerheads want!!)

So, the only work of any value is "wealth producing" work? That's the whole of the Public Sector stuffed, then. No armed forces or police either - don't think they "produce" anything....

Let's just say I'd be happy if the Navvy, the lawyer, the doctor and the secretary all earned about the same...!

 

Then what incentive is there for spending five years or more getting a degree and profesional qualifications ?

Without a renumerative inducement, thise years at university would have been better spent digging the road.
