All rounders- hardest fish to catch ?

The fish that I've had to put most effort into catching, but had minimal success, has to be mullet. West coast of Scotland, two trips a year to see relatives for several years. Hundreds of inspected, then ignored baits, dozens of missed bites, several hooked fish, only two landed.

Angling is more than just catching fish, if it wasn't it would just be called 'catching'......... John

I'll second that. Mullet are the only fish I fish for and they can be exasperating. You can have great big ones, easily double figures right at your feet splashing about and "playing" in the water and you'll be really lucky to catch one. The next day they'll be all "gone" and it's then you might just get one on. They fight like hell. The first time I got one on I thought I'd hooked the back-actor of a JCB.

The problem isn't what people don't know, it's what they know that just ain't so.

Not sure if it`s the same thing Phone but have caught my fair share snagging Mullet at the bottom of the chicken factory outlets on the river Ebro spain ,cast over the shoal with drilled bullet and massive treble then wind back through it fast.....,they were to be used as bait for the catfish mind hardly a sporting way to get them if they are your target fish

We are not putting it back it is a lump now put that curry down and go and get the scales

have I told you abouit the cruise control on my Volvo ,,,,,,,bla bla bla Barder rod has it come yet?? and don`t even start me on Chris Lythe :bleh::icecream:

As an all rounder I have fished for all the Coarse Species, but by far the hardest fish to catch by design was a Big Eel.

They way they can remove all signs of a bait without any indication was the most frustrating thing I have ever encountered whilst coarse fishing.

Are there any other posters with similar experiences ?

Bob

So if they are removing all signs of the bait without any indication how do you know they were eels.

Just wondered.

Barry,

There were only Big Eels and small Perch in the Pit.

The small Perch would pull at the air injected Worms, whereas the Eels just snipped off the worm and left a bare hook ?

Hardest to catch ?

Hard to locate, hard to tempt, hard to land or all three ?

Amongst British fish the mullet scores well, particularly if you fly-fish for them. A decent mullet on a #5 fly outfit = meltdown

Second I would put seatrout - no other fish is so adept at diving deep, finding a weed-covered rock, and transferring your hook thereto.

Thin Lipped Mullet for me. Thick Lips can be nigh on easy in comparison at times!

Yes, good point, and Golden Grey Mullet even harder (still looking for my first !)
