I remember helping to search for a "lost" 3 iron deep in the woods of a golf course. It got "lost" just after the golf ball it had just whacked into the lake. Maybe for a similar reason ?

I reckon he put the pole down to eat his sandwiches, and a record gudgeon took the bait while he wasn't looking!

i did just the same thing on a river, i put my pole away in its tube and put the tube in my holdall but forgot to zip it up,

then as i swung the holdall over my shoulder (using the small hand strap) the pole slid from the tube and strait in the river.

it happens,

ps a swift dive to the bottom and i got it back as it was only 5 ft beep and in summer,

please dont try this in ponds or weedy venues.

Been swimming twice this yr for pole sections and got them back both times needless to say once was when it was hailing and driving wind the water was warmer than the air tempurature or it bloody well felt it! And i landed the fish too {didnt leave it unattended, just resting on some reeds while talking to the missis on my phone}
