"total numpties with a flyrod (Not you Starvin!)".

MJB, I'll be splashing you with me paddle next time I sees ya balanced on a rock :D

Kayak Fisherman Quarterly (free with orders from Hook1) is a great magazine, it's put together by several of the main kayak fishermen in the USA, all who run their own shops or guide services so are very knowledgeable guys, they also accept articles from outside of the states, hopefully Spanner's Skate article will have found it's way on the pages, as have several articles from Wales, written by myself and Simon.

Producing a quarterly magazine could be possible, but it would take a lot of work and commitment and would need contributions from several authors, as well as a means of collecting payment, either through advertising or cover price, this would be required to cover the cost of printing and distribution. BASS have a quarterly magazine, it would be interesting to know how much that costs to put together and mail to the 2000+ members.

It's a very interesting idea.

I think before you go about putting a mag together, what a bout a proper club/society for yakkers, that would then produce its own quaterly mag, like BASS does. Its cheaper with a guarranteed readership, and would only contain relevant articles and reviews. The BASS mag is a fantasticread and for 20 odd quid a year bloody good value.

Just a thought. We could have Y.U.K (Yakkers of the United Kingdom) or K.R.A.P - Kayak recreational Anglers Posse.

This could be a thread on its own!!!

Well, considering the flak we get from Sea Angler, and from other anglers (I've put some noses out of joint apparently) I sugest, as a title: Fishermen Using Canoes & Kayaks (Other Fishermans Foes).

Being the Canoe User from North of Town that I am, I would feel quite satisfied to have a subscription to that.

Wetter than an otter's pocket.

for those who dont want to waste their money on a pile of adverts.

Be aware of the dangers

I would like to point out that there are dangers as well as pleasures in kayak fishing.

It needs to be pointed out that these craft are for inshore fishing only , not 3 or 4 miles out because they are more likely to capsize in bigger swells offshore.

with no fixed radio - and few anglers would take a hand held radio with them - it is less likely they would be rescued.

The accident stats for these crafts are going to rise before long without some form of warning or education

The editor says : I have considered running kayak fishing stories but am worried about the safety issues. I skipper a 17ft boat and can fish in a couple of feet of water and nose my way around rocks in perfect safety , so I cant see the advantages of going to sea in a cockleshell . Certainly it may be fun but from the safety point of view it does raise question marks

I dont know if anyone besides me watches "Coast", but there was in the episode about the North of Scotland and outer islands and a guy on there who Kayaked 700 Miles around Scotland and the associated Islands. He was asked how stable and safe his Kayak was, and he said he would feel safer in the huge swells and bad weather around Scotland and the slands than a 17ft boat! Some of the footage was spectacular in the huge swells and surf.

Although this is not verbatim from the episode, I think a guy who has Kayaked in this area and for this distance should be listened to,(not forgetting our own experience)

Hi JT :)

Not in Jersey now until June mate, don't mind having a chat with the bloke but like I say it will be June now :(

Not heard from my mate Prowler (Mark, for some time now and am getting a little worried to be honest, as we got on really really well) If you see him please pass on my regards and hope that all is ok!.

If you fancy a meet up and a paddle in June, let me know and I will PM you nearer the date (always nice to have someone to chat to whilst on the water, and safer obviously!)

All the best mate..............Dave
