Farewell to an old friend

Recommended Posts

Getting my gear ready for Wingham and having a re-check/clearout of my tackle cupboards at the same time.

Came across my old stream-roving bag, which originally belonged to my great-uncle (purchased in the late 1910s I would guess) Anyway, it was passed to his son, who in turn passed it to me when I was about 12.

So it has had the best part of 100 year's use , 70 of them in my possession . It is time to say goodbye, and into the dustbin it has gone (sob)

....or should I have brought it to the Wingham auction ?

It doesn't look to bad to me Dave....go rescue it !

The material is fine, so is the carrying strap. Its the leather holding the buckles that has gone in two places, and two straps have parted at the most-used holes. I suppose a leather craftsman could put it right for about £50 but my new one (made in Mid-Wales so the label assures me) is fine and cost about the same as repairing the old one.

Being a Yorkshire man, I can't see owt much wrong with it Dave.

The type of small repair job that used to be a project for the old closed season.

Angling is more than just catching fish, if it wasn't it would just be called 'catching'......... John

If you would like, I would be happy to repair it (well, my long-suffering wife would) and it would only cost you post both ways. She does auto, truck, and boat upholstery so heavy cloth and leather is not a problem.

The double-post thing has been happening fairly often this past week or so and usually by long term members who don't normally have the problem so I blame the forum software.

Did you go rescue it Dave ?....I hope you did :). Stick it in the washer and just use it as it is or hang it on the wall and store stuff int it.
