Jet ski nightmare

Recommended Posts

Just had a nice holiday on the sunny East Coast catching bass, everything about it was great... Only trouble was the tides...slap bang in the middle of the afternoon. Heat and daylight brings out the dreaded jet skier...every five minutes the drone of another on the horizon heading straight for my patch of the beach. Most go past and dissapear to bug some other poor sod. Then one comes closer and starts spinning around 250yds in front of me. End of session !

Jet skiers?

I`ve a very nasty solution to them.

Cast out a line, that consists of. As large a sinker that you can manage, followed by 20 yds of 120lb braid. The braid will be your shock leader, attach a snap swivel to your line followed by a bead and a stop knot. Attach anything that floats to the snap swivel and fling it out!! The jet skier will foul his prop shaft long before you lose all your line?

You`d be amazed at how inadequate some folk can be at getting back to shore. Especially after they`ve flouted all the local bye laws!!

Of course this is a very vindictive practice and is illegal. And very dangerous for the `Winker` that is showing off to all his mates.

I wouldn`t condone it in any way.

Not "illegal" just one's chosen way of fishing. 'Tiss the said jet skier that owes a duty of care to him/herself and their machinery in such circumstances. In fact the jet skier would be liable for any of your property that was damaged due to his/her wholly reckless actions. Case dismissed against the honourable Spasor.

Mr Onions, a far from violent man, came up with a very similar solution as yours, Spasor, whilst we were fishing off Clevedon Pier yesterday.

There is a buoy some 100 yards from the pier to mark the point where jet skiing is allowed, for some reason they ignore it. One pillock even rode his machine under the pier.

Help me unhook these, please.

Adam S:

Spasor why would a jet ski have a propellor shaft?

I did'nt think that jet skis had prop' shafts either. They just suck water in a little hole underneath and spew it out another little hole at the back.

The problem isn't what people don't know, it's what they know that just ain't so.

Hiya,

it could still work, AFAIK it's a small turbine like engeine that pushes the water through so there is still something for the braid to tangle up on.

I had a similar incident many years ago at Greenock with a speed boat & water skier, he came in and caught my line just as it was starting to sink, he ended up with a couple of hundred yards of 30lb line round his prop and a cracked casing from when the lead hit the engine.

It was quite funny watching the boat come to a sudden stop... For some reason he was very agressive when I asked for me tackle back
