Foot & Mouth in cattle confirmed in Surrey? anyone any further news?

well judy, I really hope so too.

 

Unfortunately I really don't know how you would get an isolated case of this particular disease.

 

I hate to think thta we are about to repeat the events of 2001.

Not much chance Judy. F&M spreads like wildfire, and the cattle must have caught it from somewhere so it looks like it is back again.

The problem isn't what people don't know, it's what they know that just ain't so.

Poor animals! Poor farmers!

 

The latter will be hit hard at a time when many are already near ruin anyway. There's been an immediate movement ban that will interupt buying and sellin of livestock. There's also almost certainly going to be import bans imposed by many foreign countries on UK meat that could be the final straw for farmers.

 

It's also going to affect many other country people if the outbreak has already spread. Many fisheries (especially day ticket ones) and the tackle trade will lose out, plus of course the tourist industry.

 

Compared with the above we anglers would just be inconvenienced.

 

Let's keep our fingers crossed.
