This man just likes learning for learning's sake. You like going to the pub, reading the Sun, and smoking fags. I prefer a mug of coffee, a copy of Nature or Scientific American and a spliff. Get over it. Edited by corydoras

The problem isn't what people don't know, it's what they know that just ain't so.

The worrying thing is that F&M is spread on the wind. When was the last time we had a wind-free period here in the UK? Ask any small boat owner - it's been a long, long time :(

Any bets who will be first with a ban??

My money is on the French.

Colin

Northern ireland has said it will accept no farmstock from the main land. The french from memory were the last to remove the ban even after pressure from the eu and the courts.

Free to choose apart from the ones where the trust poked their nose in. Common eel. tope. Bass and sea bream. All restricted.

New for 2016 TAT are the main instigators for the demise of the u k bass charter boat industry, where they went screaming off to parliament and for the first time assisting so called angling gurus set up bass take bans with the e u using rubbish exaggerated info collected by ices from anglers, they must be very proud.

Upgrade, the door has been closed with regards to anglers being linked to the e u superstate and the failed c f p. So TAT will no longer need to pay monies to the EAA anymore as that org is no longer relevant to the u k . Goodbye to the europeon anglers alliance and pathetic restrictions from the e u.

Angling is better than politics, ban politics from angling.

Consumer of bass. where is the evidence that the u k bass stock need angling trust protection. Why won't you work with your peers instead of castigating them. They have the answer.

Recipie's for mullet stew more than welcomed.

Angling sanitation trust and kent and sussex sea anglers org delete's and blocks rsa's alternative opinion on their face book site. Although they claim to rep all.

new for 2014. where is the evidence that the south coast bream stock need the angling trust? Your campaign has no evidence. Why won't you work with your peers, the inshore under tens? As opposed to alienating them? Angling trust failed big time re bait digging, even fish legal attempted to intervene and failed, all for what, nothing.

Looks like the sea angling reps have been coerced by the ifca's to compose sea angling strategy's that the ifca's at some stage will look at drafting into legislation to manage the rsa, because they like wasting tax payers money. That's without asking the rsa btw. You know who you are..

Just about animal can physically spread F&M, horses, dogs, cats, wild animals. Only Ungulates can actually catch it, it's not confined to ruminants though chesters. All ruminants are ungulates, but not all unglulates are ruminants. Pigs can catch it.

It's colloquially known as foot and mouth disease because the symptoms include vesicles or ulcers in the mouth and nostrils, on the hooves and sometimes on the teats too.

i did mention poo corners residents ;)

Lots of red faces at Pirbright research centre. Seems like an own goal!!! :wallbash::wallbash:

From the BBC site

"The strain of foot-and-mouth disease found at a Surrey farm has been identified, Defra has said.

The strain detected in infected cattle is identical to that used at the Institute for Animal Health, at Pirbright, three miles from the farm."

Now, I'm not one to cast aspersions.... <_<

There's some possible good news this morning.

Firstly, if the outbreak did indeed come from the nearby labs (1 private, 1 government on the same site) then it's less likely that it would have spread outside the immediate area.

Secondly, there's been no movement of livestock in or out of the infected farm for about a month. This is very much longer than the incubation period, so again there's less chance of the virus having already spread.

On the other hand it begs the question about biosecurity at the labs. Apparently one of them was implicated in an earlier outbreak of foot and mouth in the 50s, and one was severely criticised in a report just a few years ago.

Additionally. Environment Minister, Hilary Benn, was interviewed on TV this morning and was only able to say that as far as he knew no viruses harmful to humans were at either of these labs.

By the way, those of you who think that a serious outbreak of foot and mouth wion't affect you may be in for a shock. The bill last time was many billions of pounds, of which a good part was paid for out of the public purse.

In other words taxes had to be higher and/or spending on public services such as the NHS etc had to be reduced.

he's telling fibs there are harmful things there <_<

but ofcourse the usual "as far as i know" I.E. he does but it isnt on paper

or "believe" (blairs favourite) which is any reason to know or not to know anything for the moment ,gets them off the hook.

theres biological agents harmfull to man and beast and chemical agents as well ,i worked there for a week cleaning the small animal unit and left due to the shameful cruelty by those working with them who by their education should know better ,not cruelty in the peta sense (which animal testing has to be) but in non research terms which would have the rspca knocking at your door in a trice in "home" circumstances

the whole place is open to outside animals getting in and ofcourse out ,the feed bins were always being got in by rodents (which according to those in higher office was impossible to happen) and ofcourse those eating the food dropped droppings and those hundreds (just in the section i worked in) of small animals dropped droppings on the floor so passed it on to those critters creeping in at night.

i cant talk about the cattle but its a darn site harder to keep them in cages!!!!

its an animal research place your not going to be testing them on cornflakes !

they didnt just "deal" with the next door place but merrist wood as well but i think most of that place has sold the cattle and land for a golf course ,used to pinch spuds from there :D
