Blackmail is blackmail i suppose , but why all the hype with the "royal............ha" family?

Is there any need for them anymore?

What REAL purpose do they serve? What realistic input do they actually place on society as a whole in this "crackpot" world?

ANY OFFERS??

I'm sorry Mr M, but people who say 'what purpose does the Royal Family serve' have no idea what powers the Crown has....

Without going into how much money they bring in from tourists, I can list several reasons why having a King/Queen is a good idea.

Who is it that approves the new Prime Minister? I'll give you a clue, it isn't Parliament....

Who is it that opens a new parliamentary session? I'll give you another clue, it isn't Parliament....

Who is it that closes Parliament before all those ministers go off on their fact-finding tours of the Algarve? Do you need a clue?

Who is it that stops us being controlled by a dictatorship? I'm not giving any clues.

Who is, in effect, in control of the armed forces? I'll give you some clues on this one.... ROYAL Navy; ROYAL Air Force; and as for the Army, well - do I need say any more?

Who is it that has the final word on which laws should come into force? The House of Commons and the House of Lords discuss it between themselves, but before any proposal (Green Paper) becomes a law (White Paper), it has to go before the Crown.

The Crown has more power than many people realise, and I could give a few more examples of what the Crown is able to do.

i think i read it costs us 60p each a year for royalty so they are certainly better value than the telly licence and no doupt put far more £'s into the country than celebrity dancing (or whatever its called) :D

theres certainly more than meets the eye though blackmailers rarely are kept in prison till their court meeting and £50 thou isnt large in modern terms is it we will see when it hits the baily if reporting restrictions arn't enforced.

"Would you like to be blackmailed ?"

i would like to be in a position where i may and could afford to pay them off :D

Believe NOTHING anyones says or writes unless you witness it yourself and even then your eyes can deceive you

None of this "the enemy of my enemy is my friend" crap it just means i have at least two enemies!

There is only one opinion i listen to ,its mine and its ALWAYS right even when its wrong

From the Mail on Sunday - http://www.mailonsunday.co.uk/pages/live/a...=1770&ct=5;

"It is alleged he then said that he had a videotape showing an aide giving someone – who he suggested was the Royal – oral sex."

Wasn't a similar accusation levelled at Prince Charles when he was a single man ?

Assuming the "aide" was a male, I think it widens the field.

It could certainly widen something.
