Feeding chopped worm

I'm thinking about having a crack at a local water reputed to hold some large perch.

 

Anyone got any suggestions for feeding chopped worm accurately without getting covered in worm guts

 

I was thinking of maybe mixing the chopped worms with a bit of brown crumb ? ? ?

For me it depends on how you plan to fish. I often just chop them up in my hand and chuck them in and this seems to work well on most occasions. I have never found this method to be overly messy. However, i have noticed that this can be a problem if you are fishing your bait on the bottom as Perch will often intercept loose fed bait on the drop. So you could have your bait well away from any feeding Perch. The obvious thing to do if you feel this is happening is to fish up in the water or fish or for them on the drop.

 

As you mentioned crumb, i am assuming you might be thinking of fishing for them on the bottom? In that case I often use a bait dropper to ensure all the choped worm gets to the bottom and they are not intercepting it on the way down.

I know some don't use groundbait when fishing for Perch but I do use it if i want to fish for them at distance as its a useful to carry feed a good distance. I have thought of using a mini spomb in the past but again worry this might attract them to feed up in the water when it would be hard to catch them at distance. However, I do like using a mini spomb at close range if fishing up the water as you can lower it near a float and watch it open to release a load of goodies and sloppy groundbait :-)

The water I have in mind is a "Match Canal" carp type water, so it'll be fairly close range float fishing, the bait dropper does seem a good idea, and should get a nice mix of chopped worm and maggot into the right spot.

 

Why do I think of them as a running water only tool . . .

Like Dales I just tear them up into throwable chunks and throw them in. It works well for close range canal fishing but I don't use the chopped worm to feed the perch (too expensive), more to get the scent in the water and attract them to the swim, I've found that it only takes three or four lobs to do that and once the fish are present they'll compete over the hookbait.

Ditto! Though will often throw in quite a bit of maggot as well to attract the bait fish into the area...

Hmm breaking them up and chucking em in is what I've been doing, thought you experts might have a better way

Mole 'ill soil zur, mole 'ill soil.

Cheaper than crumb, occurs in heaps on the bank so you don't have to carry it far.

 

Good on its own, super if chopped worms, or frozen maggots, or chopped Spam (or all three) are added.

 

Yes, do what Dales suggests and put in by bait dropper (although if it IS intercepted by tiddlers on the way down, said tiddlers are also a perch attractant)

No, haven't felt the need to, lobs work well on their own although dendrobaenas are ignored by my local perch, they just won't take them.

Perch are definitely attracted to sinking particles, even if they are particles of stuff perch don't eat.

I have tried it along with the predator plus. Can't say it makes any difference for Perch fishing to be honest and it left with me with the feeling that my money could have been better spent on more worms or maggots to use as loose feed. If anything it might make Perch fishing harder on some waters as l have found both liquid worm and predator plus seem to attract other species like Tench and Bream.
